KMD2287 Center Stage

SOLD

I seem to be seeing red these days! Perhaps that is because we are in the heart of winter here in Colorado where there is not much color surrounding us except an occasional snow storm that covers the world in white! Once we are in the hot summer days of July I will probably be longing for these winter days and painting winter scenes!

KMD2283 Pause and Ponder

SOLD
I don't remember where I was when I photographed this gentle deer but have wanted to do this painting for quite some time. I was lucky to get before he or she bolted off after hearing the camera shutter. It is such a pleasure painting animals such a variety of nature's wonders!

KMD2282 Under Vast Skies

SOLD
I recently came across a photo I had printed out several months ago and never got arount to painting. That is why doing the daily paintings is fun, to try so many different subjects.
This is a scene from Provence, France that we came across when visiting a few years ago. I loved the vast skies, filled with clouds floating over the meadow filled with purple flowers. I never know how to describe in words why a particular scene catches my eye, but that must be why I paint them instead of writing about them!

KMD2281 Wonder in Red

SOLD
I have been stepping outside of the box for our upcoming 6th Anniversary show at Brushstrokes: "The Power of One" where each of us is creating 7 paintings from one reference/source material. By next week I will be posting what I have so far on my website. This is a sampling of what is to come that I experimented with for my daily painting venture. I am so excited about what I am doing. I haven't had this much fun in a long time!

KMD2280 Morning Light

SOLD

A little change of pace from the florals I have been doing. This scene with the streak of light across the grasses caught my attention early one July morning in the town of Leadville, Colorado. I of course would have stayed in bed until it was too late for this light but my friend Pat enthusiastically roused me out while the day was fresh and cool and the light just perfect!

KMD2279 Joyous Grace

SOLD
With the spring like days we've had this week in Denver I am being lulled into a false sense of warmer days to come followed by the spring flowers. Being that is only January I know I will be set back to more cold winter days making the paintings of flowers that much more fun!

KMD2278 Nature's Delight

SOLD

This little painting is a scene from Boulder, Colorado that I photographed several summers back. I found this great garden on my way to Chautauqua Park where there is always a plethora of photo opportunities whether it be wildflowers in the meadows or the majestic Flatirons.

Surprise... another poppy garden, but pink ones this time. This is from a photo taken once again at our incredible Denver Botanic Gardens last spring! It is such fun looking through all my photo reference and reminiscing so many trips in search of painting reference. What a job I have!

KM2007 All Glorious

These poppies are from the Denver Botanic Gardens. What a treasure we have in Denver with our Gardens, so full of every kind of plant and flower imaginable and I didn't have to plant any of them! I loved the fact that these poppies were surrounded by such vibrantly purple flowers that do nothing but compliment the poppies.

KM2274 Josie

Here is another commission I had the pleasure of painting. This is Josie, an 8 month old Portuguese Water dog and full of life. She was another challenge to photograph for reference to use for the painting as there are many more interesting things to focus your attention on besides the camera when you are a puppy!
I have one more pet portrait commission to paint before gettin back to painting and posting my regular daily paintings next week.
We have been doing taxes ALL WEEK at the gallery and haven't been using much of the right side of my brain although my partners aren't sure there is any left side working these days!

KM2272 Baylee

Here is the companion commission to Belle whom I posted the other day. This gal is named Baylee. She is the companion to Belle who I painted and posted first. I had such fun photographing and painting these 2 sweet dogs and have found a great new passion to add to my painting repertoire. I love dogs and cats as much as I love painting and what a challenge to put their spirits to canvas.

KM2271 Belle

This is a commission I did for a collector as a surprise for his wife for Christmas. I photographed and painted both of their Golden's but Belle was a challenge as she was so nervous for the photo shoot and wouldn't quit panting. It took awhile to get a picture where she was calm and didn't have her tongue hanging out. She is an absolute sweetheart and what a thrill to paint her!
