Ironically, I find many of my painting scenes in the back alleys where flowers grow wild and unstructured, my preference. This particular morning was sunlit and this vine flowing over the fence with all its blooms had to be painted!

Bruges the "Venice of the North" is a splendid medieval city. It is one of Belgium's crown jewels. In my travels I have found no other European city with look and feel and of medieval times. I arrived one fall day after a rain shower when all the fall colors reflected not only in the canals but on the cobblestone streets too. I loved this little city and its people and never tire painting the numerous scenes I found.

In the 1970's I lived in Arizona and discovered the Ocotillo. When they are blooming they are one of my most favorite flowering cacti. They have the very small bright red flowers on the end of the long and spindly spines reaching out to the sky. The small size of the flowers in no way diminishes their brilliance.

These were found in Telluride, Colorado a few years ago while on a trip with my travel and photographer friend Pat. For years my Dad and stepmother had a wonderful place on an out island in the Abacos in the Bahamas. Hopetown, on Elbow Cay, was the next island to the north where we would go for groceries and essentials. Hopetown is a quaint New England style village in an island paradise where I found infinite subjects to photograph and paint. This is a scene that caught my fancy as it so represents the quaintness of this small village.

I photographed this little guy on Christmas day 2007. It was the first white Christmas we have had here in Colorado in a long time. We were at my sister's house in Fort Collins and my brother in law loves to feed the birds. The blue jays were having a feast shelling the peanuts he put out. This fellow was perched on an Aspen branch above waiting for a second course. Painting him was pure delight.

I painted this little oil from a photo I shot at the Garden of the Gods late on a fall day here in Colorado. The Garden of the Gods Park is a Registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is laden with thin blades of upturned sandstone, the most famous features of Garden of the Gods. The grasses were lit up with the warm hues of the late day light that I found to be the most beautiful part of the composition. I chose to emphasize the warm grasses with the sandstone formations playing second fiddle in the background.

This is the finished painting of Sassy Stern. Painting miniature paintings on a daily basis allows me to create paintings of all my favorite pictures taken throughout my career. I found this boat docked in a canal in Amsterdam. Boats have such sensual lines that they are like painting a figure to me.

While on one of my travels I always photograph as many of the animals I come across. This little lamb was one of the curious ones who was willing to come up and let me take his photo while in Greece. Of course, he was the only black sheep in the herd. They can be a challenge to photograph as they are shy and usually run away when I approach. This oil painting is another of my small pieces that I am doing on a daily basis.

For years my Dad lived on Tilloo Cay an island in the Bahamas. I painted scenes there over and over and over just wanting to melt into the aqua blue waters of the Carribean. In fact, that is where my painting career started, hauling pastels across the country and into the Bahamas to wile away my time on the island. How fortunate for me to have had my Dad and the opportunities he gave me.
This scene was an inlet we passed on the boat everytime we went to the next island-Elbow Cay where we bought groceries and gas. There will be more of these to come as I have lots of reference from my years down there.

While driving some back roads I screeched on the brakes when I saw this foreground of wild and vibrant poppies with the old stone European architecture in the background. Another Colorado wonder: the Maroon Bells outside of Aspen,Colorado. The Maroon Bells, surrounded by pristine National Forest lands, are the most photographed peaks in all of North America. I am one who has been photographing there every chance I get. I go there to explore the glacial valley that is surrounded by 14,000 - foot peaks. Summer has a bounty of wildflowers in the fields below the Bells.

Here is a commission of Duke, an incredible Australian Shepard rescued from a shelter by loving parents to whom he gave so much love in return. He visited our mountain place here in Colorado every summer and was quite the loyal herder, keeping track of all the people that ever went hiking or walking. It was a big job as the hikers never stayed together, but Duke got lots of excercise as he kept track of each every person until they returned home.

While visiting Tuscon, Arizona several years ago I photographed the blooming Ocotillo. They are one of my favorite desert blooming cacti with their brilliant red orange flowers just sitting atop the long stalks of the cactus. The blooms may be small in size but not in the attention they bring to themselves with their luscious color.

These red poppies were found in Greece on the Peloponnese where we visited last May.
European poppies are such a vibrant red, unlike any I find here in the states. They seem to grow anywhere from fields to cracks in the stone steps.
