I fell in love with this scene while on my trip through Southern Utah last October. A winter storm was brewing leaving the skies a dark grey blue. The turning gold aspen against that sky were colors to behold. In spite of how tumultuous early winter storms are, this scene had a really peaceful feeling to it.

KMD2837 Warm Fall Day 7x5 original oil landscape by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney
It is still only August but every day feels more like fall here in Denver which is inspiring me to pull out my fall reference. I love and dread fall. Love the perfect Colorado days we get, the amazing warm, glowing colors in the mountains where the Aspen turn to gold, but dread the short, dark days of winter which I know is not far behind.
So, I will immortalize fall hoping the paintings keep me reminded of the perfect days we still have ahead.

KM2516 Glorious Summer (aspen, landsscape, summer, original oil painting)
Another in my landscape series of painting with larger, bolder strokes and lots of paint. I am so enjoying the way my paintings are going by using less definition and more paint. This is a scene found one summer outside of Crested Butte on Kebler Pass while photographing with my Brushstrokes partner John K. Harrell. It took us quite a while to get over the pass as there was a photograph every 2 feet!
