KMD2365 Wandering in Rome
While looking through my photo reference for new ideas to paint I came across this scene that I photographed while visiting Rome. It is so typical of travelers looking at a map trying to figure out where they are while being awestruck by their surroundings. That was certainly me in the magnificent city of Rome. This painting is at the entry of the Roman Forum.

KMD2364 Fall En Bruges

SOLD
I haven't posted in a few days as I have been busy working on a big installation, along with my Brushstrokes partners, John and Anita. It is for the Trailhead Lodge of Wildhorse Meadows in Steamboat Springs here in Colorado.
Meanwhile, to address this daily paintings I just finished this one of a scene from Bruges, Belgium. I was there with my friend Pat in the fall and it was glorious. It is one of my favorite spots in Europe.

MD2362 Springtime in the Rockies
The Wild Iris in June are something to behold here in Colorado. This pastoral scene is in South Park, Colorado, a vast valley surrounded by majestic mountains. Summer brings some incredible skies when the afternoon storms roll in but this setting was in the morning before the clouds rolled in.

KMD2361 Lovely and Luminous
Spring, my very most favorite time of year to wander and meander with a camera in hand. These iris were found on an early morning walk with my dog Farley. He finds my stopping every two feet to photograph a scene as irritating as I do when he does the same to check his P-Mail!!!

KMD2360

SOLD
The title of this painting is a description of how I felt a few weeks ago while wandering on a cool, crisp spring morning. I have gone to to this street every spring for years and it is like stepping into the country side as most of the homes are on several wooded acres. This scene is one of the few that is the same every year when I return. It was this bright in the morning light!

This composition just spoke to me as I was perusing my photo reference for today's painting. The Black Eyed Susan seems like such a cheery flower and this scene was such a wonderful contrast of the delicate daisy like flowers with the hardy sunflower.

KMD2358 Bountiful Spring
I found this scene a few weeks ago while driving home from doing a plein air painting at Washington Park. It has been awhile since I have painted outside and what a perfect morning it was. The temperature was just right, the skies were blue and everything looked and smelled so fresh. Perfect champagne days, as my mother called them, have been rare this spring here in Colorado with a plethora of thunderstorms. I am not complaining however as I have never seen it so green and lush.

KMD2357 This is Spring
Tulips are always the sign telling me that spring is really here with winter giving out at long last. I found these colorful beauties at our incredible Denver Botanic Gardens while wandering with some good friends and, as always, armed with a camera. I loved the less structured colorful scene of these tulips surrounded by the delicate lace like tiny flowers.

KMD2356 Gentle Brilliance
I found these poppies the other day while walking my dog Farley. It was a perfect spring morning with cool temperatures, birds singing and the sun on our shoulders. We have been experiencing a wet and mostly cloudy spring here so it made this day even more perfect. I am in heaven with all the fresh scents of spring along with all the poppies and iris in full bloom. This is my most favorite time of year. I wish it would last a little longer!

KMD2351 Poppies and Iris
Spring is so in the air now. Denver is greener than I remember in a long time. This painting is from a reference at the Denver Botanic Gardens which I have visited recently and it is such a gift to our city. It has every kind of plant and flower imaginable with such a variety of wonderful settings to wander and enjoy.
With Memorial Day Weekend upon us I will not be posting for a few days as we have the 30th Annual South Gaylord St. Festival happening Sat thru Monday. I will be very occupied with my studio partners as we show our art to the huge crowds that will be attending.

Even though it is spring, my most favorite time of the year, I was compelled to paint this fall scene found here in Colorado on a trail in the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. Of course, fall comes second to the seasons I love most here in Colorado. The colors in this scene were absolutely stunning with such a variety of reds, yellows, burnt oranges and yellow greens.

Another painting inspired from my recent trip to Taos. We visited the Mabel Dodge Luhan House where I found this wonderful scene. This is a mystical place where Georgia O’Keeffe, D.H. KMD2343 Spring in Taos
Last week I went to Taos with 6 of my old college buddies. What a hoot and a howl we had together. Spring had just begun there and it was so fresh and full of new life with all the crabapples and lilacs blooming. I forgot how much fun Taos is and how beautiful the area is, with all the adobe bathed in the New Mexico light. It is fun to have a new subject matter to focus upon!

There is such a mystique to the priests in Greece. KMD2317 Around the Next Bend
I have wanted to paint this scene since last summer when I photographed it outside of Lake City, Colorado. I went there with my infamous travel companion, Pat, after a harrowing ride in my sport utility up a really rough 4 wheel drive road. We were attempting to drive the Alpine Loop to the American Basin that hosts a plethora of wildflowers. This is a scene that I created in pastels from a trip I took several years ago to Savannah, Georgia. The combination of amazing architecture, rich history and lush display of trees and flowering plants was absolutely breathtaking.

The Daily Painters Gallery has a first Wednesday of the month theme and challenge. This month's theme is "Reflections." The first image that came to mind for me was the day I was in Paris (my first trip to Europe thanks to my good friend Pat) and it rained intermittently throughout our first day there. That left wonderful reflections when the sun came out right after the rain. I loved the small child leading the way in this scene!
