KM3050 Twilight Reflection by Kit Hevron Mahoney (Contemporary Landscape oil 14 x 11)

Twilight Reflection  11x14   oil
Here is another painting from my bin art sale.
I have priced it at $200 and it can be purchased by clicking on this link: Purchase Now.

I painted this painting mostly from memory and intuition as I strive to express more with less information. The open landscape is spiritual for me as I gaze upon the vastness of so many places in this world.

KM2555 Wonderous Spring     6x8    oil    $125

ONLINE ART MARKET: New Items
BIN ART $200 and less.

It is so gratifying to have my paintings find new homes.
I have so many new ideas to explore and your purchases are helping me clear out the studio and have my artwork enjoyed and appreciated.
Here are 4 more paintings just added to my web ONLINE ART MARKET bin art.
These are not only paintings but also memories of the wonderful times I had finding and photographing the subjects to express on canvas.
How lucky am I to have found this career and my partners at Brushstrokes to share this world of creativity.
The pink poppies are from our Denver Botanic Gardens, the Flatirons are, of course, Boulder. The other landscapes were painted after an amazing trip to France which has a plethora of inspiration to paint!

KME1001 Envision by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (3x5" encaustic abstract with inks)

SOLD

A very Happy New Year to everyone!
I have been cleaning out my home studio to make room for new ideas and creations for 2017.
This is a favorite that was saved to use as reference for other paintings. Now it is time it to find a new home.
The price is reduced on this little gem from $75 to $35.
This painting was created intuitively using fluid acrylics and applying encaustic to the surface. As with all of my works, it is a one of a kind for the intuitive process is totally unpredictable and I use different techniques and materials on each.

KM3094 Abundance by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (18x24 urban, market scene, fruit, original oil)

Giclee Reproductions Available

Contact Kit about other giclée sizes and prices not listed in dropdown menu.

I painted this colorful market scene from a photo taken on a trip to Europe several years ago. I was motivated to finally paint it when we decided to do a show at Brushstrokes called "Kitchen Sink" which is open to our own interpretation. I challenged myself to paint looser, which seems to be the eternal challenge of every artist I speak with! Abstraction and simplifying is what I am doing with each piece I paint now. I find it to be the next step in my process after so many years of a more literal interpretation.
If you live in Denver, please stop by for Brushstroke's show; opening reception Sat. November 19 5-7pm.

KMA3087 Manhattan Mystery by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x24 abstract urban, New York City)

Painting is all about what inspires me. I was in NYC on a theatre tour with some wonderful friends a few weeks ago and came home ready to explore abstracted urban scenes. This is one I have finished that is in Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery's "Abstraction" show which opens tomorrow with a preview today. I am so thrilled with the way this painting came together and the end result of being mysterious but giving enough information to recognize a sky scrapers in a large city, in this case New York City.

KMA3083 Patterns of Nature by Colorado artist Kit H Mahoney (24x36 oil abstracted landscape)

Giclee Reproductions Available

As I explore painting more abstractly it is a great new challenge to simplify the landscape and keep the excitement of the scene I am creating on canvas. This exploration, I feel, is a natural evolution for me as a painter. This continual growth and exploration keeps me stimulated and curious. It also makes my portfolio quite diversified which used to worry me for we have been taught that artists need to show consistency in thier work. But, an artist's work is a reflection of their person and life.
As I add more years to my age it makes me feel more limited in time to try so many new and exciting ideas. I am coming to terms with this and now know that it is who I am becoming and that I will always be on the path to becoming!

KM3021 Autumn Gold by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x24 oil, autumn, aspen, fall, Colorado)

Fall is in full swing here in Colorado. The autumn days in Colorado are truly magical and I am savoring each and everyone in this season.
Every year I wish I could store the full memory and the feeling from the warmth, color, and crystal clear days we experience.
I can only hope to translate those feeling onto canvas.
"Autumn Gold" was a painted from one of those days at the Maroon Bells. As I was unable to do my annual fall trek to Aspen this year, therefore, I painted this scene from a photo taken last year. This year I was fortunate enough to visit NYC which inspired some really exciting new ideas that I plan to start this week.
This painting is available for sale or if preferred a Giclée reproduction printed on archival canvas that I will enhance can also be purchased.

KMA3084 Expression of Fall by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x24" original oil, fall, Colorado, Aspen)

Now that fall is in the air here in Colorado it is easy to be inspired by the amazing Aspen scenes with the leaves turning to their golden, yellows and orange hues. This painting has been created with lots of texture and soft line using the palette knife for texture and brushes to soften and blend the resulting colors.

KMA3065 The Beginning by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (8x8 acrylic, abstract art, conceptual)

This is a sampling of a small body of work that I have done where I am exploring creations of abstract images done on panel board with acrylics. They are non representational allowing the viewer to engage and let their imaginations soar. I will be posting the series of 9"x12" in upcoming days that are very reasonably priced and will have special pricing if you choose to purchase more than one.

I have not abandoned my representational work by any means but am expanding my horizons and satisfying my creative curiosity by allowing myself to step outside of the box.

KMD3071 Pink Poppies by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7 oil pink poppy garden)

SOLD

Poppies still remain one of my most favorite flowers to paint. I came across these on an early morning walk last month with my dog Farley who impatiently waited as I photographed them. (He has much different preferences on our walks!)
There is nothing more invigorating than the cool, fresh spring and summer mornings with dew on all the new flowers and the abundance of new life everywhere. I think spring is my most favorite season, followed by fall which is reflected in so much of my work.

KMD30656 Redbird by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x6, Cardinal, bird, nature)

SOLD

I have been busy with some really fun commissions but needed to take a break from the current one. It is in the stage of "I think I have nailed it" but need to step back and evaluate how to finish it without overworking it. Painting this little Cardinal was a great way to divert my attention and keep the creative juices flowing!
Trivia: The cardinal is the only red bird in eastern North America with a crest on top of his or her head, which rises when the bird senses danger.

KM3049 Twilight's Silence by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x12, oil, landscape, twilight, late day sunset)

My painting life has suddenly gotten busy, the name of the game in the art business. This is another study in simplified landscapes that I painted recently. Playing with simplification in my painting process is an ongoing journey for my artistic curiosity. I can't wait to get back to studying more of my landscape imagery.

KM3043 Rounding Them Up by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x18 oil, western, landscape, horses cows, cowboy, Utah)

SOLD

I fell in love with this romantic appearing scene on a trip to Southern Utah a few years ago. It was such fun to see a man and his horse with his herding dogs keeping the cattle in line. Not a scene we come across much anymore except in the movies. A great challenge to capture what appears to be a serene moment on canvas.

KMA3030 Serene Moment by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (10x8 oil textured sunset)

SOLD

As I am exploring the world of abstraction, I am studying how to create exciting landscapes with far less detail. This entails fewer brushstrokes using lots of paint, exciting colors and letting a scene tell its story using the most basic of shapes. This is one of my studies with more on the horizon. In addition to my representational works, this year promises a new enthusiasm infused into stepping out of my comfort zone.

KMA7-2 Variation in Greens by Contemporary Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (9x12, acrylic, abstract, monochrome study)

Here is another in the monochromatic series I have done. I love the variation of similar shapes and values that I used in this piece. Here is a description of the meaning of the color green: Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. That definition is what I hope this paining conveys.

KMA7-1 Study in Blue by Kit Hevron Mahoney (8x8 acrylic abstract blue)

I am exploring the world of abstract and have created a series of monochromatic paintings on 1" high cradle boards. This is the first in the series and I really like the intuitive works that I am doing. They are definitely a challenge for me but very stimulating and exciting to play in a new arena. I did the series using stripes to create soothing and interesting compositions that I have done to keep the viewer engaged and entertained. Enjoy!

KM3041 Image of Eternity by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney ( landscape, 6x24, twilight, sunset, Moab)

This painting was done from an fleeting moment captured in Utah just on our way out of Dead Horse Point at days end with my dear friend Pat. I loved the way the last light just lit up a few points on the mesas before disappearing into evening. Such a magical moment to share with a good friend and now as a permanent painting in oil.

KM3018 Arctic Cotton Grasses by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (48x48 landscape, cotton grasses, Canada)

This is my painting done for the "Grab Bag" show at Brushstrokes Fine Art Gallery here in Denver. We each put an object into a bag that was given to another artist at our studio. I got 3 cotton balls to interpret on canvas. After searching for images of cotton I came across an amazing photo of Arctic Cotton grasses in the Nunavut Canada Wilderness by photographer Tim Hauf who kindly gave me permission to use his amazing photograph. After researching, I found that these flowering plants grow throughout the arctic, subarctic and temperate portions of the Northern Hemisphere in acid bog habitats. Who would have thought that 3 cotton balls would lead to discovering new plants!!!! Love new adventures!

KMA3011 Come What May by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x24 abstract acrylic)

I decided to step out of the box and show one of my recent abstract paintings. I have been reluctant to show my abstracts as they are so different from my representational works.
When creating my abstracts I have challenged myself to work intuitively and totally from within with no visual reference to draw from. Having painted for almost 30 years from reference this has pushed me into new places not always comfortable. So many of my abstracts have many layers of painted ideas, some of which are visible adding to the final composition. It is very difficult to know when I am finished as opposed to, for instance, a landscape painting. I hope you enjoy following my journey into the abstract as a part of my creative journey as a painter.
Of course, I will continue with my representational works and hope to see some influence in them from the abstract exploration.
I would love to hear back from you as to how you are reacting to these new pieces.
This is one of my paintings that will be showing next month in an abstract show at the Framed Image Gallery here in Denver.
