KM2195 Early Evening Stroll

SOLD
Here is another painting done from photos found during the clean-up of my flooded basement last week. This was taken in Florence, Italy on the street leading to Ponte Vechio. The sun was just setting leaving a colorful sunset glow on the buildings just under the archway! It was like magic being there.

KM2193 Willows in Fall
Last week we had a torrential rainfall at my house here in Denver, flooding the basement. While cleaning up the mess I came across a boxful of photographs.....something out of the past!!!! Anyway, I got really excited about my find and a change from the digital I ususally work with. I loved this piece from Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. It brings back fond memories of several trips there as well as a fun subject I forgot I had to paint!

KM2192 Jubilance
I find poppies everywhere I go. My favorite times to travel and photograph are in the spring and fall when the poppies are lighting up the landscape in spring and the aspen are aglow in yellows, oranges and reds. Obviously, I never get tired of painting these incredible subjects.

KM2190 Blooming Ever Brilliant
Here is another beautiful little scene found on my recent trip to Crested Butte. This was on a hike outside the little town of Gothic. The Indian Paintbrush are such intense, rich, red flowers and these were enhanced more sitting next to the white trunk of the Aspen tree. I may do this one large as well.

KM2189 The Road Less Travelled
I am always drawn to roads and paths and the mystery of what lies beyond. Here is a road that I was following in search of wildflowers but this scene was to beautiful to pass up with the greenery in the front and the road leading one off to wherever the imagination wants to go.

KM2185 Alive with Vibrance
Once again, a trip back to the Poppy Garden. They are fun to explore in between all the other subjects that I love to paint. These are from an incredible garden found on Queen Anne's Hill in Seattle, Washington where gardens grow in wild abundance with all the moisture we don't see here in Colorado.

KM2192 Blue Dream of Sky
Back to another scene from Crested Butte here in Colorado. It is the wildflower capital of Colorado and what a feast it has been each time I have been there in the height of the bloom. In this painting I was entranced by the blue Colorado sky, the white Aspen trees and the intense purple Lupine.
Between my trip there this summer and several summer's ago I could paint something every day of that area for the next few years! I haven't even sorted out all of this year's photos. The digital camera is blessing but dangerous in my hands as I tend to shoot everything I see!!!

KM2184 Country Laundry

SOLD
I seem to be time traveling, for now I am back in England, in the Cotswolds. My friend Pat introduced me to the little village of Chipping Campden where she and I stayed a few days several years back. The town is absolutely charming and we loved wandering into the countryside as well. In wandering the outskirts of the village I found this nostalgic scene of laundry drying on the line. Why is European laundry so romantic?

KM2183 Amber Skies
Had to take a break from the Colorado wildflowers and Crested Butte and journey back to Italy for awhile. This scene was a late afternoon, early evening outside of Assisi, Italy while visiting a few years back. The late day light is so magical and that is my favorite time of day as the world seems to settle into a quiet time where one can hear their thoughts that get lost in the flurry of the day!

While driving some of the rugged passes outside of Lake City, Colorado we came across an entire flock of sheep, high on the mountainside, still green making for lush grazing. This little guy had a watchful eye on me and my camera!

KM2180 Poetry in Purple

SOLD
This scene caused me to come to a screeching halt while driving to Crested Butte as the red and blue violet colors in the flowers were so intense against the blue, blue mountains in the background. Luckily for me and the other drivers there was place to pull off the highway so we could record it in photographs to be interpreted here on canvas!!!!

This scene was found along the highway in to Crested Butte. I love Colorado's deep, rich blue skies especially when contrasted with the bright cumulus clouds. I am always in awe of being in such incredible beauty. Painting that feeling is a real challenge.

KM2178 Late Day Glow
Here is the first of many to come from an incredible trip to Crested Butte, Colorado, the wildflower capital. It was awesome - the flowers the weather the photography. This scene was found late one afternoon right on the outskirts of town, just walking distance from our motel. We stayed until we had no more camera batteries or sunlight. It was magical to sit on a hill and watch the sun set glowing different colors on the hills that were rich with Paintbrush, sage and other flowers.

I found this gem of a floral scene on a walk while in Greece. The background was as warm as the flowers making it a challenge to make the flowers come forward and remain the main focal point of the painting. It was fun experimenting with color and brush strokes.

I am currently in Crested Butte, Colorado photographing the most incredible wildflowers to paint upon returning home.
Today I leave for Lake City to find more awesome scenery and flowers. What a grand state Colorado is.

What a brilliant sight this garden was. I found it a few summers ago while venturing around the town of Telluride, Colorado. Those are still to come.

This little guy was guarding his path in a small village in Provence. It is a challenge to photograph the dogs I find along my travels as they aren't impressed with my invitation for them to pose. Being such a fanatic dog and cat lover, I never pass up a chance to photograph them and hopefully get a chance to paint them. Doing these small studies gives me that chance.

KM1088 Floating
Here is another painting inspired from my trip to Greece last year. We stayed in Nafplio on the Pelopennese.
The city of Nafplio was the first capital of the modern Greek state. Named after Nafplios, son of Poseidon, and home of Palamidis, their local hero of the Trojan war and supposedly the inventor of weights and measures, lighthouses, the first Greek alphabet and the father of the Sophists.
There were many colorful boats were anchored in the harbror that I photographed throughout the day as we wandered around town. I knew I wanted to paint this one as soon as I saw it.

KM2028 Curious Gaze
While in wandering he narrow streets on the island of Hydra in Greece, school had just let out when I spotted this little girl standing secretly in a pose that leaves the viewer wondering what she is up to. Is she hiding from someone or waiting to surprise another little friend. I want this painting to keep the viewer guessing as to what was happening.

KM2162 Walking in Versailles
I have had this scene on my mind to paint for many a moon. I was in Versailles, France several years ago with some really good friends and I loved this quiet walkway lined with the huge trees to shade the way. It was so pleasant after all the beautiful sights in Paris but I loved the quiet and serenity that this offered. It was early fall making it rich with the colors that were beginning to turn.

KM2066 Nature's Wonder
The Columbine, Colorado's state flower is almost orchid like to me. It stands so tall and proud in and amongst the aspen trees. The wild Columbine found in the Colorado mountains are always lavendar and white with the yellow stamens. Painting just one flower seems like a great tribute to the individual beauty these flowers bring us.
