KMD2997 Pepper Red by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (still life 5x75x7, vegetable, pepper, red pepper)

In the last month I have taken a hiatus from painting after an incredible year of shows and commissions. I have spent the last month having great times catching up with so many friends, past and present.
I am in the process of filling the well again with new ideas for what I am going to create in the New Year. No perfectly formulated ideas yet, but stay tuned as I search for new ways to express myself on canvas.
Meanwhile, I did paint these bell peppers as they are so bright and colorful and gave me a chance to revisit the old days of painting a still life.

KM2864 Springtime in the Country by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (36x24, landscape, orginal oil painting, Texas)

This is another painting created for the Courtyard Gallery in New Buffalo, MI.
It is a scene from near the Willow Creek Loop in the Hill Country of Texas during the Blue Bonnet season.
There is a lifetime of paintings to be created when it is a good blooming year.
But of course, I was drawn to the wonderful reflections in this creek surrounded by red cliffs and the purple Blue Bonnets off in the distance.
Please contact Gene at the Courtyard Gallery if you would like to purchasing this painting.

KM2865 Flourishing with Summer Color by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x30 original oil lancscape)

SOLD
Wow, I have not been posting for a few months! Moving Brushstrokes and settling into our magnificent new space has consumed me for longer than I thought. I have been painting commissions, for the upcoming Colorado Governor's Show and for my new gallery, Courtyard Gallery in Michigan.
I am looking forward to creating some of my daily paintings but meanwhile I thought I would post my latest that I have painted for our new space. This is a scene from Crested Butte when the wildflowers are in full bloom. An amazing array of color and beauty.

KMD2837 Warm Fall Day 7x5 original oil landscape by Denver, Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

It is still only August but every day feels more like fall here in Denver which is inspiring me to pull out my fall reference. I love and dread fall. Love the perfect Colorado days we get, the amazing warm, glowing colors in the mountains where the Aspen turn to gold, but dread the short, dark days of winter which I know is not far behind. So, I will immortalize fall hoping the paintings keep me reminded of the perfect days we still have ahead.

KMD2835 Of Days Gone By by Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7 original oil landscape)

Where does the time go? I haven't posted for several weeks and don't know how I let so much time slip away. With fall in the air now I am feeling more energized and ready to start a new painting season. This is a scene from the Hill Country in Texas where I went several years ago in search of the illustrious Bluebonnets. It wasn't a banner year but we still found great scenes like this one. I love the nostalgia of the railroad tracks reminding us of days gone by while the flowers continue to bloom year after year.

KM2775 Afternoon Shadows by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (10"x8" orignial oil)

SOLD
I painted this scene for the 21st Annual Colorado Governor's Invitational Art Show and Sale which opens on Saturday, April 28 at the Loveland Museum. It is an honor to have been in this show for 11 years. I chose this scene because I loved the late day light and long shadows and the romance of Italy where I shot the photo reference.

KM2769 Into the Woods by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

SOLD
This painting is a mixture of my representational and abstract styles. It is a rich mixture of textures created using a palette knife with some brush work. I have painted it for our 10th Anniversary Show at Brushstrokes on April 27. It has been really busy here as I get ready for the Brushstrokes show and the Colorado Governor's Invitational Art Show and Sale that opens on April 28th. Guess I won't be taking any weekends off for this month!

KMD2735 Perception in Red (6x8, floral)

SOLD
With winter still coming on strong here in Denver (once again it is snowing as remnants of the last snow had almost melted off) I look into images that will bring spring closer. So, of course I reach for my familiar and favorite; poppies. This piece was inspired from a picture taken in Estes Park, Colorado where there was a full garden of these delightful red gems.
