KM0471 Afternoon Snow by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x18 Colorado, snow, winter, urban)

I am so happy to announce that I am celebrating 15 years of partnership with my great partners at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery.
One of our first celebration events for this occasion is a Studio Sale. I am offering many of my paintings at a 35% discount and free shipping.
Our event opens on
Saturday, March 4 with a reception from 5pm - 7:30pm.
Sale continues through March 11.

Since I have been painting for 30 years now, I have accumulated a large inventory of great works that need to find new homes and make room for new creations in the studio.
Afternoon Snow is one of my sale paintings and the price reflects the 35% discount. This scene seems appropriate to post today as Denver is finally getting some much needed snow after many spring like days in February!

To see and purchase other works please go to my SALE BLOG where you will find my sale works for purchase.

KMD2333 North Park Vista by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x8 oil landscape North Park, CO)

It has been such a busy year that I haven't posted in months. I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with abstraction. I will start posting those in the New Year but meanwhile, here is a fun expression of a summer scene in North Park. This piece is 6"x8" with expressive, minimal brushwork.

KM2985 Luscious Moment by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x8 oil painting on linen, floral)

This floral was created to hang in my show last month as one in a series of 3 florals in the strong vertical format which gives some interesting and new compositional approaches. I love capturing a moment in time when photographing close up giving such importance to just one or two flowers as opposed to a landscape. Be on the look out for a new series from my trip last week to Crested Butte, Colorado where I spent 4 days photographing perhaps every flower blooming there!

KM2984 Paradise Revisited by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x8, oil, floral, garden, poppy)

Here is a return to the past as I still love painting poppies. I thought a tall vertical would be a fun composition. It was painted for my recent solo show at Brushstrokes Studio. I enjoyed revisiting an old friend in the form of a local Denver garden reference that I never tire of painting from.

KM2980 Twilight’s Magic by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x40, oil, landscape, Moab, Southern Utah, sunset, dusk)

SOLD
I came upon this scene on the way into Moab,Utah last October just as the sun had dropped behind the mountains. It was a magical moment filled with a rainbow of saturated purples, blues and reds. I had to paint this with a brush rather than palette knife as this piece isn't about texture but about expressing the calm magic of twilight when all the busyness of the day’s events set with the sun. For me it is the best time of day as the world seemingly comes to a halt and peace reigns.

KMD2950 Pondering Clifford Still by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7 original oil, figurative, museum, Clifford Still)

It has been awhile since I have made time to post. I have been busy painting commissions, learning new computer software and I am now getting back to focusing on my upcoming solo show "The Journey Home - A Painting Odyssey" at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery. (opening on June 21, 2014). We are having a big spring snowstorm here in Denver today, so I am using it as an excuse to stay home, warm and have a catch up day. I shot this subject while visiting the Clifford Still Museum here in Denver. I went to the museum thinking I would not be enthralled with his work but was very surprised to find that much of his work intrigued me! Here is someone enjoying and studying it too!

KM2916 Fall's Destiny by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (fall, autumn, aspen trees, fall aspen, Utah)

I fell in love with this scene while on my trip through Southern Utah last October. A winter storm was brewing leaving the skies a dark grey blue. The turning gold aspen against that sky were colors to behold. In spite of how tumultuous early winter storms are, this scene had a really peaceful feeling to it.

KM2915 After the Rain by Denver, CO artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (12x12 oil urban landscape, New England, Marblehead, MA)

I have just returned from a week long road trip to Southern Utah with my friend and fellow photographer Pat. We saw some amazing landscape even with the National Parks closed, although we did get into Zion on our last day. This painting was done before leaving for Utah and is from a trip to New England a few years ago. It is one that has been in my "TO PAINT" files for quite awhile and it was fun to finally get to it. There will be some paintings from my Utah trip to follow in days to come. There will be a few in our upcoming show this weekend at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery here in Denver.

Wow, I have not been posting for a few months! Moving Brushstrokes and settling into our magnificent new space has consumed me for longer than I thought. I have been painting commissions, for the upcoming Colorado Governor's Show and for my new gallery, Courtyard Gallery in Michigan.
I am looking forward to creating some of my daily paintings but meanwhile I thought I would post my latest that I have painted for our new space. This is a scene from Crested Butte when the wildflowers are in full bloom. An amazing array of color and beauty.

KM2852 Fleeting Moment by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney ( 16x8, Colorado landscape, fall aspen)

SOLD
Last fall I was driving through Vail, Colorado in early October. This was a scene I shot from the car in the morning right after a light rain fall when the sun came out and lit the tops of some of the aspen trees. I did not get to the mountains this fall so I am reliving the fantastic Colorado autumn days from last years photos.

KM2553 Washington Park Boathouse (autumn scene, landscape, waterscape, original oil painting)

I can't believe how fast the summer is going and how far behind on my daily paintings I am. The good news is that I have been busy with commissions that have taken me away from my blogging.
I painted this nostalgic scene of the Washington Park Boathouse on location last fall. It was a perfect, crisp Colorado fall morning, a gift to be able to be part of the scene and to express the scene on canvas. It doesn't get any better!

I am so lucky to have the passion to paint and explore so many ways to create and communicate visually. Having spent the past month joyously focused in the world of abstract it is also fun to come back to the style of representational art. There are so many choices that I continually have to reel myself in and try to stay in one place long enough to finish something! Here is yesterday's focus. 7"x5" unframed original oil $125.00 + $10.00 shipping and handling
