KMA2739 Beyond Horizons (12x16, abstract, acrylic landscape)

SOLD
It is difficult to describe how I create my abstract paintings as it is such an intuitive process. Of course my results are a culmination of life experience and everything I have been exposed to in addition to all the art I peruse looking for inspiration. This painting evolved seemingly into a landscape and I let it "paint itself" once I saw a direction in it. I am off to some great adventures on Kauai with my good friends Connie and Pat. Posting will be sporadic for the next 10 days as I enjoy this vacation but know I will return home with yet many new inspirations!

KMA2734 Soaring Dreams (30x40 abstract acrylic)

SOLD
This painting was inspired from a small abstract that I created with my oil paints. Whenever I finish one of my oil paintings, I use the remaining paint to create a small abstract. I then choose my favorites of these to use as inspiration for my larger abstract paintings. It is such a great journey from leftover paints to a final creation. I never quite know where I will end. I really love the colors in this one.

KMD2735 Perception in Red (6x8, floral)

SOLD
With winter still coming on strong here in Denver (once again it is snowing as remnants of the last snow had almost melted off) I look into images that will bring spring closer. So, of course I reach for my familiar and favorite; poppies. This piece was inspired from a picture taken in Estes Park, Colorado where there was a full garden of these delightful red gems.

KMA2719 Warm Chromatic (abstract acrylic, warm hues)

This warm and colorful abstract is another done intuitively. It is one that took many layers and much study and observation before I knew it was finished; the most difficult part of painting abstractly for me! I am pleased with both the composition, flow and colors in this one. I hope it keeps the viewer engaged.

KMA2720 The End of Silence (8x10 oil abstract red flowers)

I created this colorful piece with pure imagination and was thrilled with the way it came out. It is such a wonderful time when I tap into the inner self and the painting just flows out, seemingly without effort. Lacking words to describe what I am attempting I will use the words I found in trying to describe abstracted art: Abstraction generally involves implication, suggestion and mystery rather that obvious description. Like a good poem, a good abstraction attacks your feelings before your understanding.

KMA2718 Unfolding (20"x20" acrylic absract by Kit Hevron Mahoney)

This is a painting done for our Painting with Passion Show.It is another one of my "intuitive" creations where I am working totally reference free and only with what speaks from within. It is a huge challenge for me with years of training where I paint using reference. It is fun and frightening to see what evolves. I am surprised at how I see abstracted figures revealed in many of these works. Of course the joy with the results is having everyone see from their own experiences.

KMD2727 Outside the Pub (London painting, urban, cityscape, original oil)

SOLD
While sorting through my London paintings for pictures of the red phone booths I came across this scene that really appealed to me for a daily painting. I think I might have to find more of these wonderful scenes as not only are they fun to paint but I get to relive my travels as well.

KMA2703 Looking Glass (abstract, oil, 4"x6")

Delving into the abstract brings me such joy as they come totally unbidden. These little paintings often generate ideas for larger paintings. This is one which I look forward to creating on a large scale. I really love the mix of color and shape this one has.

KM2726 Entranced (figurative, child, children, China)

I have had this picture in my files since my trip to China a few years ago. The children there are adored and adorable. This little girl was so entranced while watching the crowds in Tienanmen Square as was I in disbelief that I was actually there. I went to China on a painting/tour trip desiring experiences, viewpoints and visuals different than my own world here. It was that and more and I am so grateful to have made new friends and lasting memories and a plethora of new painting material. I, however will not try painting on location in a new part of the world as there is just too much to take in besides the challenge of dragging painting supplies everywhere and settling down long enough to focus on one spot.

KMD2721 Nostalgia (red barn, countryside, landscape, nostalgic, original oil painting)

SOLD
As I drive our front range outside of Denver these days I see fewer and fewer barns giving way to housing and shopping developments. I spotted this barn outside of Fort Collins when driving home from a visit with my sister. These old structures conjure up different memories for all of us which is why I like to paint them.

KMD2715 Fall's Riches (landscape, autumn, fall, original oil painting)

SOLD

I was recently commissioned to do a large painting of this scene and thought it would be fun to do as a daily painting. This scene is from a drive to Santa Fe, New Mexico several years back. It was the end of the day when the light was low and glowing across the landscape on the Colorado - New Mexico border. I have painted from the photo reference of that trip many times as I caught such a magical moment that continues to inspire me.

KM2711 Winter Glow (landscape, winter, Colorado, original oil painiting)

I came across this painting that I had started last year in my home studio and took it into Brushstrokes and decided it was worthy enough to finish. I am pretty sure this is a scene from the Big Thompson Canyon from a photo taken pre digital cameras. I was drawn to the late winter colors when the willows and brush turn some glorious colors right before they pop out their new growth.

KMD2710 Peering Out (Greece, Europe, urban, original oil painting)

SOLD
While perusing my reference materials looking for ideas for our upcoming "Painting with Passion" show I found this photograph taken when traveling in Greece several years back. In the small villages throughout Europe I love looking thru the narrow passageways, always curious about what view or painting I might find. This was a wonderful surprise to find the Mediterranean on the other side.

KMD2707 Homeward Bound (Italy, Europe, urban, original oil painting)

SOLD
At last, I have gotten back to the easel after all the holiday festivities and life in general. I am painting for a couple of shows whose themes are "Red". I loved the image of this person walking home with the bright red umbrella brightening an overcast day in Europe. It is from my good friend Pat's photo (with whom I have done extensive traveling and photographing). Stay tuned to see what comes next as I peruse my many photos to see what I find in red!

KMA2700 Deeper Journey (original abstract painting, oil)

SOLD
Abstracts have become an integral part of my painting experience. For years I was only wed to representational painting my interpretation of the many places I have photographed and traveled. I still love that form of painting but find new challenge and excitement painting these abstracts that come totally from intuition, a whole new journey for me. I am enamored with working in color, shape and composition with no literal representation intended, only what wants to emerge from deep within. These newer works allow the viewer to engage their imaginations and go wherever they allow the painting to take them.

KM2697 Spring's Lush Gift (Poppies, France, Provence, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
I am particularly happy with the way this painting turned out. I have not visited my poppy reference from my European travels in quite awhile so it was fun to relive some wonderful travels and approach a familiar subject with a renewed enthusiasm. The French and Italian poppies are smaller in a deeper red hue than many of ours here at home. It always amazes me to see huge fields lush in red that we came across in the springtime travels in Europe.
This will be my last posting in 2011. I am so excited about the upcoming year at Brushstrokes as we introduce our new gallery partner Kelly Berger, who brings new and exciting ideas and creative energy to our team at Brushstrokes. Stay tuned as Brushstrokes explores a new future in 2012!

KMA2705 Colors of Poetry (abstract, contemporary, non representational, original acrylic)

SOLD
I was thrilled with the way this painting evolved. I love the interplay of the colors and composition that came about while working intuitively. That is a real challenge after years of working from life and photos. This is the 3rd in a series of this subject. This painting is on display at my new gallery, Rich Timmons Studio-Gallery, in Doylestown, PA. It is a gallery wrap with no frame giving it a beautiful contemporary finish.

KMD2698 Enchanted Path (garden, summer, path, garden path, landscape)

As the days become shorter and the temps are dropping below zero I am escaping from the bitter cold to the memory of long, warm summer days. This is one of my favorite scenes from our Denver Botanic Gardens where I painted on location for hours in my early days of painting. Of course, I too am drawn to pathways as I love the mystery of where they can take you.

Another small painting done for the series of mini holiday shows I am showing in. This one was done too late to ship to my other galleries so I am offering it 1/2 off my gallery price as I would love to have this gem find a home. This is a scene found atop Independence Pass here in Colorado which is my favorite fall destination to see Aspen changing their colors.

KM2689 Then and Now (Landscape, mountains, floral landscape, ghost town, flower meadow)

SOLD
This scene was found on Rabbit Ears Pass in mid summer. It was an abandoned mining town left to the wildflowers which surrounded it with their warm, bright yellow hues. These scenes always leave one wondering about the lives that were lived here, their thoughts, feelings, daily routines and the ruggedness of the individuals who endured life before today's amenities. I love creating works that leave a viewer always engaged with wonder and questions.

KM2689 Maroon Bells (Colorado, autumn, aspen trees, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
I painted this scene from my recent trip to Aspen, Colorado and more specifically the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. It was a perfect day and we timed our arrival at the peak of the changing colors of the Aspen trees. The sun was in and out of the clouds creating a light show of different clumps of aspen showcased in the light as the clouds moved. That is what this scene reflects. This painting is hanging at Brushstrokes in the "Gift of Miniature" show.
It is available framed or unframed.

KM2685 Autumn Gold (autumn, Aspen, aspen leaves, landscape, fall foilage, Colorado

SOLD
I painted this scene from my trip to Aspen here in Colorado at the end of September. It was such a magnificent weekend of the sun filtering through the golden leaves. One just feels rich with the warmth from the sun and the amazing reds, yellows an oranges completely surrounding you. There is just nothing like a perfect fall day in Colorado. This painting is hanging in our "Gift of Miniature" show at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery.

KM2687 Dappled Morning Light (Italy, Tuscany, urbanscape, architeture)

This scene is from a trip to Italy with my gallery partners John and Anita while we were staying in Siena. This beautifully lit doorway was at the Frances' where we stayed. The lodge is set in an 1853 Farmhouse & Orangerie on a hilltop in the countryside just outside of town. Painting this scene brings back so many wonderful memories for me but for the viewer I hope it translates the peace and warmth of a lovely sunlit morning. This is one of several paintings being done to be hung in upcoming mini shows but I am offering it online first.

KMD2684 Warm Days of Fall (Aspen, autumn, fall, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
Life seems to be amping up, and the days are filled with one activity after another. Is is just me or does the world seem to be moving faster and faster? It was such a gift to find the time to sit quietly and relive this warm and serene scene as I painted it. This fall in Colorado has been so spectacular and we have been blessed with many perfect days that I refer to as "Champagne Days" where the air is crisp, the skies are "Colorado" blue and the colors of the changing leaves are spectacular. I wish it would last forever. But since snow is in the forecast I hope my painting will keep the memory and feelings of these perfect days alive.

KM2683 No Anxiety (dog, pet, pet portrait, original oil painting)

This is Farley, my wonderful dog and amazing friend. I found him in this wonderful pose after a busy day at our mountain cabin where he had played with all the other dogs, swam in the river and had a beautiful day of going wherever he wanted with no leash. Our place is a gift for our family and our dogs, all of whom love the freedom and peace of the place.

KM2682 Delight of Spring (chickadee, bird, nature, landscape, animal, original art)

I painted this Chickadee once before as a small painting and loved it so much that I had to do a large version for our recent show at Brushstrokes. I was drawn not only to the beauty of the little bird but to the soft background that surrounds him. I will be posting more from the show in the near future. 24"x24" framed original oil $2600.00 + $30.00 shipping and handling

It has been awhile since I last posted as I have been swamped with life in general. This is a sneak preview of one of my paintings for our show at Brushstrokes: "All Creatures Great and Small" that opens for First Friday October 7. This is Buddy, one of the friendliest cats I have met who belongs to my friend Julie who creates beautiful one of a kind jewelry that we sell at Brushstrokes as well.
