KMD2784 Spring's Lush Gifts (floral, 5x7, original oil by Contemporary Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

SOLD
Back to the easel with a new spring subject. I am still in the busy time of painting for the Art Student's League Art Market and am trying not to get too frenzied as the days draw closer to the event. I have some really exciting new works, all abstracts that I am creating but it was fun to take a break and return to one of my favorite subjects; springtime and joyous and vibrant poppies. Enjoy!

KMA2761 Vertically Inclined (4x6, abstract, oil, by Contemporary Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

SOLD
This is another in my intuitive abstract series done in oil using the paints I have mixed from creating a representational work. I will be selling these works at the 2 day Art Student's League of Denver's Summer Art Market June 9 and 10, but thought I would release some before the market. These are really a joy to create, some just don't come together and get thrown away but others are gems like this one. I compare the painting experience to a game of golf, some days you hit the sweet spot every time and other days..........well, you get the picture

KMA2751 Soul's Dream II (4x4, abstract, oil, original paining)

Continuing with with abstract art, I am creating miniature images from my oils leftover at the end of my painting day. This is one in a series of three. I love to see what my palette looks like with all the leftover piles of color from creating a larger representational painting. I am creating these small gems for the Summer Art Market in June put on by the Art Student's League of Denver.

KMA2737 Playful Touch (abstract, 36x36, acrylic on stretched canvas)

I have just returned from a very wet but relaxing trip to Kauai. I had painted this piece before leaving and am planning to do some of my small daily paintings this week inspired from my trip.
This painting was created from a small abstract I painted as a study for a larger one. The real joy in this kind of painting is letting it take its own course using my original study only as a starting point. It is such a fun journey working from the intuitive.

KMD2735 Perception in Red (6x8, floral)

SOLD
With winter still coming on strong here in Denver (once again it is snowing as remnants of the last snow had almost melted off) I look into images that will bring spring closer. So, of course I reach for my familiar and favorite; poppies. This piece was inspired from a picture taken in Estes Park, Colorado where there was a full garden of these delightful red gems.

KMA2719 Warm Chromatic (abstract acrylic, warm hues)

This warm and colorful abstract is another done intuitively. It is one that took many layers and much study and observation before I knew it was finished; the most difficult part of painting abstractly for me! I am pleased with both the composition, flow and colors in this one. I hope it keeps the viewer engaged.

KMA2720 The End of Silence (8x10 oil abstract red flowers)

I created this colorful piece with pure imagination and was thrilled with the way it came out. It is such a wonderful time when I tap into the inner self and the painting just flows out, seemingly without effort. Lacking words to describe what I am attempting I will use the words I found in trying to describe abstracted art: Abstraction generally involves implication, suggestion and mystery rather that obvious description. Like a good poem, a good abstraction attacks your feelings before your understanding.

KM2712 Spirit in Red

This is one of my favorite of the abstracts that I am creating now. It is part of our "Painting with Passion" show at Brushstrokes and is framed in a black floater frame. Email me if you are interested in seeing it in the frame.

KMD2462 Fall's Rich Colors (fall, colorful, landscape, nature)

SOLD
I am working on a commission of an Aspen scene and my client loved the colors in this particular piece so I thought it would be fun to do this as a daily painting. I am so passionate for our Colorado fall colors that I can't imagine surviving the New England colors!

KMD2456 Vibrant Splendor by Kit Hevron Mahoney (landscape, contemporary, oil)

SOLD
I haven't been posting for awhile. It seems all the daily paintings I have done lately are not up to my standards hence I didn't post, perhaps an "artist block" or being very busy with lots of activity at the studio these days. Anyway I really was pleased with the abstract quality of this piece. I was drawn to the brilliant colors of the foreground and have expressed this as a "colorist" in my rendering.

KMD2444 Nature's Brilliance by Kit Hevron Mahoney (floral, garden)

SOLD

Each day that I set out to do my Daily Paintings (ok, every 3 days!) it's fun to see what inspires me. I love how the dailies allow me to jump all around in my smorgasboard of painting reference to see which excites me each day! I think the less colorful months of Jan/Feb lead me to the more colorful warm and bright colors of spring.
