KM2221 Colorado Fall

SOLD

Here is my first of many to come from my trip here in Colorado in search of gold! I can't wait to get to more of my photos to keep living the incredible weekend of being surrounded by warm sun glowing thru all the yellow, orange and red Aspen leaves.

Also, the Daily Painters are all posting a painting with orange on Wednesday so go check it out there as well: Daily Painters Website
I realize I have more yellow than orange, but no one said how orange, so think of my colors as orange-yellow!

KM2220 In Morning Shadows

SOLD
I have just returned from Aspen, the Maroon Bells and then Kebler Pass and Crested Butte, Colorado where I saw some of the most awesome fall scenery and colors. You will be seeing some of what I found later this week.
I painted this scene from a place in Provence, France, but I cannot remember where it was! I have so many pictures that now and again I pull one out that I have always wanted to paint but forget where I was as I seem to be enamored everywhere I am!

KM2219 Blue Door

I found this scene last year while in Greece wandering around the island of Hydra.
We arrived there by boat from Napflio, our home base. We spent the morning exploring the many narrow cobblestone streets where there are no vehicles and only burros for transportation. We were so entranced that we actually got lost and almost missed the boat home which wouldn't have been a problem for me as I still had lots more pictures to find!

KM2218 Afternoon Glow

SOLD

The late afternoon light casts such great shadows and just kisses the tree tops. This moment was found outside of Lake City, Colorado last July. We headed out and ventured up Engineer Pass as the sun was going down leaving just the last warm glow of the day.

KM2217 Warm Afternoon

SOLD

I did this painting in oil from another of those photos found in my home studio while doing some much needed cleaning and clutter clearing. I am easily sidetracked and had to paint this so there is much clutter to attend to still!!!
Anyway, I love the simplicity of this landscape with the arroyo leading you back to the cluster of trees.

KM2216 Afternoon Stroll

SOLD
This little scene reflects how I am feeling here in Denver this perfect September day. Is there nothing more heavenly than a fall day when the air is crisp and the skies are blue? I just love the feeling of the days that have lost the edge of the summer heat and now the sunshine on your shoulders is welcomed in anticipation of the cooler days ahead.

KM2215 Dancing with Delight

SOLD

Another poppy painting? But of course, they are just such fun to paint and look at that I love doing them in between new ideas that are brewing. These poppies were growing wild in our Colorado mountains surrounded by wild grasses all of which were dancing in a gentle breeze.

KM2214 Luscious

SOLD

Can't get away from Crested Butte and the Aspen groves. There is something so gentle about the quaking Aspen and the green meadows where these were growing. The white trunks take on such a glow when the light is reflecting off of them.

KM2211 Into the Woods

SOLD

This painting is for an upcoming show at my gallery, Brushstrokes here in Denver. The show is on October 17 but I am working on paintings for it now, and am excited about lots of new ideas for it. Stay posted, there will be more that I will be posting in between my small daily paintings. This scene is once again from Crested Butte, Colorado from a photo I took several years ago, before the advent of the digital camera!

KM2210 Vast Skies

SOLD

I seem to be into skies recently. Here is one from an early evening outside of Crested Butte, the area that has provided an abundance of painting materials for me in my passion for the landscape. Later this month I will be going to Aspen and Crested Butte in search of the brilliant changing Aspen scenes. Hopefully the weather will hold and it will be a year of color!

KM2009 Lone Tree

SOLD

I have painted over the original "Lone Tree" painting that I posted several days ago. I am striving to loosen up my brushwork which I accomplished in this painting but it felt unfinished to me. I have added more contrast to the painting without comprising the looser brushwork and I am very satisfied with the results of this little painting.
Let me know your thoughts!

KM2208 Carribean Skies

SOLD
I came across some photos that I had taken quite a few years ago in the Bahamas. I was particularly drawn to this one because of the dramatic skies filled with the threatening storm clouds of ominous color and contrasting light. The out islands of the Bahamas have a lot of low growth so the beauty of the scenery for me is the luscious turquoise waters contrasted storm clouds, a result of the fast moving weather systems that blow through.

KM2206 Glorious Poppies

SOLD
I am always drawn to the wilder, less structured gardens. This painting glorifies the wonderful poppy which I do so often. The poppy is so bold and showy that it is hard to pass one up to paint and I used the palette knife to do most of this to keep the painting on the wilder side as well.

KM2205 Summer Splendor

SOLD
Our Botanic Gardens here in Denver are a plethora of material to photograph and paint. This little scene was hidden behind the Alpine Garden where I go every year to see what may be new there. The dappled morning light is so romantic on an early summer morning when it is still cool and the dew is still on the ground.

KM2204 Lone Tree

As a painter I am continually exploring and working on my style of painting. I am exploring a looser and more expressive style using fewer brushstrokes to create my visual story . That is what this piece represents. Let me know what your thoughts as far as how this painting might speak to you.

KM2202 Heavenly

The flower is the poetry of reproduction.
It is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life.

~Jean Giraudoux

SOLD

Surprise! I do actually paint something other than poppies! These Cone flowers were photographed at the Denver Botanic Gardens showing off their luscious magenta colors while contrasting the grayed greens in the background. It was a picture calling out to be taken and interpreted with my paintbrush!
