KMA3087 Manhattan Mystery by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x24 abstract urban, New York City)

Painting is all about what inspires me. I was in NYC on a theatre tour with some wonderful friends a few weeks ago and came home ready to explore abstracted urban scenes. This is one I have finished that is in Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery's "Abstraction" show which opens tomorrow with a preview today. I am so thrilled with the way this painting came together and the end result of being mysterious but giving enough information to recognize a sky scrapers in a large city, in this case New York City.

KMA3083 Patterns of Nature by Colorado artist Kit H Mahoney (24x36 oil abstracted landscape)

Giclee Reproductions Available

As I explore painting more abstractly it is a great new challenge to simplify the landscape and keep the excitement of the scene I am creating on canvas. This exploration, I feel, is a natural evolution for me as a painter. This continual growth and exploration keeps me stimulated and curious. It also makes my portfolio quite diversified which used to worry me for we have been taught that artists need to show consistency in thier work. But, an artist's work is a reflection of their person and life.
As I add more years to my age it makes me feel more limited in time to try so many new and exciting ideas. I am coming to terms with this and now know that it is who I am becoming and that I will always be on the path to becoming!

KM3021 Autumn Gold by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x24 oil, autumn, aspen, fall, Colorado)

Fall is in full swing here in Colorado. The autumn days in Colorado are truly magical and I am savoring each and everyone in this season.
Every year I wish I could store the full memory and the feeling from the warmth, color, and crystal clear days we experience.
I can only hope to translate those feeling onto canvas.
"Autumn Gold" was a painted from one of those days at the Maroon Bells. As I was unable to do my annual fall trek to Aspen this year, therefore, I painted this scene from a photo taken last year. This year I was fortunate enough to visit NYC which inspired some really exciting new ideas that I plan to start this week.
This painting is available for sale or if preferred a Giclée reproduction printed on archival canvas that I will enhance can also be purchased.
