KM2570 Mountain Contemporary (mountains, landscape, abstracted)

I was commissioned to paint a 48x60 abstract mountain scene that didn't have too many bright colors (a challenge for me!) I did almost the entire painting with a large palette knife and one stroke with a huge brush loaded with gobs of paint. This was such fun experimenting with acrylics and the unforgiving palette knife tool.
I can't wait to get back to more experimentation.

KMD2565 Jewel (dog, pet portrait, animal)

This is a portrait I did for a client as a gift to their parents for Christmas this year. I did not meet Jewel and painted her from a photo but she looked like a sweet being and it was a gift for me to get to paint her.

KMD2573 Cold Clear Day (Bluejay, birds, wildlife, winter)

SOLD
I photographed this fellow one Christmas day several years ago at my sister's house in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was a very cold, crisp clear Colorado day and this one was awaiting his turn at the feeder, puffing up his feathers to ward off the cold.
I love the blues of his plumage with the Colorado blue skies.
Some trivia: Blue Jays can make a large variety of sounds, and they may learn to mimic human speech. Blue Jays can also copy the cries of local hawks so well that it is sometimes difficult to tell which it is.

KM2520 Summer's Last Hurrah

I have been busy painting some more abstracted images to be placed in a spec home in Avon, Colorado so have not been tending to the daily paintings which I miss doing. I found that I had not posted this painting done last month which is a larger floral. With the warm December days we have had here in Denver it almost feels like this is a more appropriate subject even though Christmas is only days away!

KMD2567 Waiting for an Answer (birds, animals, ornithology, original oil painting)

SOLD
I have really been on a kick for the little birds, a symbol to me of freedom and sweet music. They are so entertaining as they dance around the bird feeder, sometimes not so patiently, waiting their turn.
I love waking up in the Springtime to the symphony of sounds that all the birds are making outside. Some mornings it is so loud that I can't hear the radio which is not a bad thing! I turn off the news and just listen to them trying to distinguish the many different sounds.

KM2566 Dancing in Illusion (abstract painting)

I have been creating some abstract paintings and am really happy about how this one came out. It is a challenge going abstract as there is a beginning, but finding the end can be a challenge.

KMD2565 Gentle Giant (buffalo, animal, wildlife, bison, original fine art)

SOLD
I don't know why, but lately as I peruse my for painting ideas, I am moved to paint animals. I have never painted a buffalo so decided it was time. What is it that is so romantic about the mighty buffalo? They really aren't pretty animals but they are powerful and hold such a nostalgia in our psyche, I suppose reminiscent of the freedom days on the prairie.

KMD2564 Chick a Dee Dee Dee (songbird, birds, wildlife, original art)

SOLD
This little Chickadee is titled after the sound these wonderful little birds make. They are wonderful little songbirds and here is a bit of trivia about them: On cold winter nights, these birds reduce their body temperature by up to 10-12 °C to conserve energy. I am on a bird run as they are such wonderful creatures and I hope my paintings are the next best thing to having them with us.

KM2557 On Top of the World (landscape, autumn, fall, aspen, original fine art)

I found these vertical canvas in my inventory and had a great time finding an image that spoke to the size and shape of it. It is always fun to break out of the habit of painting to standard sizes.

KMD2563 Oh So Brilliant (bird, wildlife,

SOLD

As I get older I am becoming my Grandmother who loved the birds. I have become a bird lover(not expert by any means!) and follow the seasons with their songs. I especially love spring when they are an amazing chorus singing outside my window. With winter and a bird feeder I still see them flitting about and hear their songs, but not nearly the chorus we hear in spring. I found the reference for this little guy and loved the amazing color. Nature provides and combines colors beyond imagination.

KMD2562 Surely You Jest (horse, animal, original fine art)

I just couldn't resist this humorous face on my sister's horse. I was attempting to get a photo that I could use to paint a portrait of him but captured this funny face in the process. It just makes me laugh to see him as though he too is tickled about something.

KM2559 Odd Man Out (cattle, Texas Shorthorn, cow, animal, landscape)

I had so much fun painting this scene from a photo I took last Spring in the Hill Country of Texas. I have painted many pets and some cows but am loving the challenge of a newer subject matter (the Texas Shorthorn). I photograph any animal that happens my way and always love to photograph cattle but they are hard to capture without "posing" as they are always curious as to what I am up to and all turn to investigate me! Thus, this scene of everyone looking my way!

KMD2561 Who's Watching Whom (Shorthorn, cow, cattle, livestock, original oil painting)

SOLD
I seem to be on an animal kick lately. I did a large painting of some Texas Shorthorns (See it on my website) and had so much fun doing it that I had to create a daily painting of one as well. Getting photo reference of these magnificent animals is always a challenge, for when I stand before them with a camera they stop whatever they are doing and stare back at me in wonder of what I am up to.

KMD2556 Solo (Boxer, dog, pet portrait, original fine art)

SOLD
This is Solo, my brother and sister in law's rescue Boxer. I fell in love with her the first time I met her and have been dying to put her face on a canvas for sometime now. She has the most amazing expressions, many looks of worry until we offer to go for a walk. She bounces for joy and truly smiles then!
Having grown up with Boxers I am very partial to them!

KM2555 Wonderous Spring (floral, poppies, landscape, France)

I don't remember the exact place I found this scene, but it was in the springtime in France. We stop along the roadsides so often to photograph that I lose track of each place. People often ask if I paint on location while traveling but there is hardly enough time to photograph all the amazing scenery.

KMD2552 Jubilent Poppies (floral, poppy, garden, landscape, original oil)

SOLD
Lately I have been looking through my zillions of pictures to try to organize them. It is an undaunting task upon which I have made little progress. However, I do find many old images that seem new now and get so excited about all the painting possibilities. This one caught my eye to revisit the cheerful and colorful poppy subject!

KMD2551 Countryside Springtime (landscape, rural, oil painting, barn)

SOLD
I love painting the nostalgic scenes of the countryside. The old barns and structures that are weathered stand still leaving us full of wonder of the stories they hold but will never tell. So the viewer always has interest in the scene wondering or even thinking of the stories that could be told.

KMD2549 Wild Poppies (floral, garden, landscape, orignal oil painting)

SOLD
Had to come back to the colorful poppies now that winter is really setting in here in Denver. We have had the longest, warmest, most colorful fall here in Denver that I ever remember. It started snowing today just to remind us that nothing is forever! That is one of the reasons I paint, naively thinking that I can save a moment in time.

KMD2544 Mystery in Form (Abstract painting)

I am still playing in the abstract to feed my creative spirit. It is really far more challenging than representational work as the possibilities are endless in subject, composition and medium. It is hard to know where to start and even more......when to stop!

KM2548 Warm Reflections (waterscape, reflections, fall, autumn, landscape

This is one of my paintings for our Gift of Miniature show that we are celebrating Friday, November 5 at Brushstrokes Gallery. It is another scene found during this amazingly colorful fall that we had here in Denver. My dog Farley finds our walks slow and long when the scenery is so fabulous, for it I have to stop every two feet for a picture instead of his continual stopping to check the pmail.

I found this sweet little fellow on a ranch on Oahu, Hawaii while visiting last spring. This is one of my miniature paintings for my upcoming show at Brushstrokes "Gift of Miniature. I have been experimenting with new backgrounds when my photo reference doesn't have the information I like. I was pleased with this one.

KMD2538 Washington Park Reflections ( landscape, waterscape, original fine art)

SOLD
This scene is such a popular landmark here in Denver, and is located close to Brushstrokes gallery. It is the 1913 Boat House in Washington Park on Smith Lake. For any trivia lovers; Washington Park is the largest park in this district and is over 100 years old.
I have painted it on location several times and did this painting from a photo taken a few weeks ago before our first frost.

KM2537 Autumn Reflections (autumn, waterscape, fall, landscape)

SOLD

I am painting like mad for several upcoming miniature shows. This is for our upcoming show at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery here in Denver that opens on First Friday November 5, 2010. I am enamored with the peaceful, colorful fall reflections scenes. I have done this scene larger and had fun putting it to a smaller canvas.
The other shows opening on Dec 4 are at Abend Gallery in Denver and Evergreen Fine Art Gallery in Evergreen, Colorado.

Along with all of my regular, more representational art I am working with abstracts as well. I am posting this little 4x6" piece to see what kind of reception it gets. As an artist I am driven to experiment in a variety of subjects and techniques to feed my art soul.
I am creating very large pieces for my gallery in addition to these small little gems
that will be posted on my blog in addition to my regular art.

SOLD
I can't believe this is what is in my backyard! What a glorious fall we have had here in Colorado. Everyday has been so inviting to get out the door and walk my dog Farley in the rich colors and leaves falling like gold. Oh how I wish I could make these days go on for another month but I guess the short season of this beauty must just be savored before the snows fly.

KMD2530 Day is Done (sunset, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
This was a beautiful scene at my favorite time of day......sunset. This is the time the whole world seems to quiet down to settle into night, shedding all the day's busy lists and to do's. But then, I was on vacation when I found this scene so I wasn't too stressed having only a camera on hand as I enjoyed watching the sun go down.
