KM2697 Spring's Lush Gift (Poppies, France, Provence, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
I am particularly happy with the way this painting turned out. I have not visited my poppy reference from my European travels in quite awhile so it was fun to relive some wonderful travels and approach a familiar subject with a renewed enthusiasm. The French and Italian poppies are smaller in a deeper red hue than many of ours here at home. It always amazes me to see huge fields lush in red that we came across in the springtime travels in Europe.
This will be my last posting in 2011. I am so excited about the upcoming year at Brushstrokes as we introduce our new gallery partner Kelly Berger, who brings new and exciting ideas and creative energy to our team at Brushstrokes. Stay tuned as Brushstrokes explores a new future in 2012!

KMA2705 Colors of Poetry (abstract, contemporary, non representational, original acrylic)

SOLD
I was thrilled with the way this painting evolved. I love the interplay of the colors and composition that came about while working intuitively. That is a real challenge after years of working from life and photos. This is the 3rd in a series of this subject. This painting is on display at my new gallery, Rich Timmons Studio-Gallery, in Doylestown, PA. It is a gallery wrap with no frame giving it a beautiful contemporary finish.

KMD2698 Enchanted Path (garden, summer, path, garden path, landscape)

As the days become shorter and the temps are dropping below zero I am escaping from the bitter cold to the memory of long, warm summer days. This is one of my favorite scenes from our Denver Botanic Gardens where I painted on location for hours in my early days of painting. Of course, I too am drawn to pathways as I love the mystery of where they can take you.

KMD2699 Shrouded in Silence (winter, aspen, landscape, snow, trees)

SOLD
Back to painting images that match the season we are in! This scene feels appropriate for the day we are having here in Denver. It is snowing outside making a white world and wonderland that is luxuriously observed from the warm hearth of my home.

KM2696 Golden Glow (fall, autumn, trees, Aspen, Colorado, landscape)

Another small painting done for the series of mini holiday shows I am showing in. This one was done too late to ship to my other galleries so I am offering it 1/2 off my gallery price as I would love to have this gem find a home. This is a scene found atop Independence Pass here in Colorado which is my favorite fall destination to see Aspen changing their colors.

KM2689 Then and Now (Landscape, mountains, floral landscape, ghost town, flower meadow)

SOLD
This scene was found on Rabbit Ears Pass in mid summer. It was an abandoned mining town left to the wildflowers which surrounded it with their warm, bright yellow hues. These scenes always leave one wondering about the lives that were lived here, their thoughts, feelings, daily routines and the ruggedness of the individuals who endured life before today's amenities. I love creating works that leave a viewer always engaged with wonder and questions.

KM2688 Vibrant Garden (floral, garden, poppy, landscape, original oil)

I found these intense poppies last June while visiting some wonderful friends in the Northwest, specifically, Bellingham. It was a wonderful reunion for the 3 of us. I had to interrupt our constant talking and laughing to photograph this scene to bring home and paint.

KM2689 Maroon Bells (Colorado, autumn, aspen trees, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
I painted this scene from my recent trip to Aspen, Colorado and more specifically the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. It was a perfect day and we timed our arrival at the peak of the changing colors of the Aspen trees. The sun was in and out of the clouds creating a light show of different clumps of aspen showcased in the light as the clouds moved. That is what this scene reflects. This painting is hanging at Brushstrokes in the "Gift of Miniature" show.
It is available framed or unframed.

KM2685 Autumn Gold (autumn, Aspen, aspen leaves, landscape, fall foilage, Colorado

SOLD
I painted this scene from my trip to Aspen here in Colorado at the end of September. It was such a magnificent weekend of the sun filtering through the golden leaves. One just feels rich with the warmth from the sun and the amazing reds, yellows an oranges completely surrounding you. There is just nothing like a perfect fall day in Colorado. This painting is hanging in our "Gift of Miniature" show at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery.

KM2687 Dappled Morning Light (Italy, Tuscany, urbanscape, architeture)

This scene is from a trip to Italy with my gallery partners John and Anita while we were staying in Siena. This beautifully lit doorway was at the Frances' where we stayed. The lodge is set in an 1853 Farmhouse & Orangerie on a hilltop in the countryside just outside of town. Painting this scene brings back so many wonderful memories for me but for the viewer I hope it translates the peace and warmth of a lovely sunlit morning. This is one of several paintings being done to be hung in upcoming mini shows but I am offering it online first.

KMD2684 Warm Days of Fall (Aspen, autumn, fall, landscape, original oil painting)

SOLD
Life seems to be amping up, and the days are filled with one activity after another. Is is just me or does the world seem to be moving faster and faster? It was such a gift to find the time to sit quietly and relive this warm and serene scene as I painted it. This fall in Colorado has been so spectacular and we have been blessed with many perfect days that I refer to as "Champagne Days" where the air is crisp, the skies are "Colorado" blue and the colors of the changing leaves are spectacular. I wish it would last forever. But since snow is in the forecast I hope my painting will keep the memory and feelings of these perfect days alive.

KM2683 No Anxiety (dog, pet, pet portrait, original oil painting)

This is Farley, my wonderful dog and amazing friend. I found him in this wonderful pose after a busy day at our mountain cabin where he had played with all the other dogs, swam in the river and had a beautiful day of going wherever he wanted with no leash. Our place is a gift for our family and our dogs, all of whom love the freedom and peace of the place.

KM2682 Delight of Spring (chickadee, bird, nature, landscape, animal, original art)

I painted this Chickadee once before as a small painting and loved it so much that I had to do a large version for our recent show at Brushstrokes. I was drawn not only to the beauty of the little bird but to the soft background that surrounds him. I will be posting more from the show in the near future. 24"x24" framed original oil $2600.00 + $30.00 shipping and handling

KM2677 Coy Kitty (cat, feline, animal, pet, kitty)

It has been awhile since I last posted as I have been swamped with life in general. This is a sneak preview of one of my paintings for our show at Brushstrokes: "All Creatures Great and Small" that opens for First Friday October 7. This is Buddy, one of the friendliest cats I have met who belongs to my friend Julie who creates beautiful one of a kind jewelry that we sell at Brushstrokes as well. Stay tuned for more or visit my website to see what else will be in the show. 12"x16" unframed original oil $1200.00 + $15.00 shipping and handling 12"x16" unframed original oil $1200.00 + $15.00 shipping and handling

KM2678 Copper Melody (floral, poppies, garden, contemporary, original fine art)

This a painting that I did as a demo at Longcoat Fine Art Gallery on Labor Day weekend during a show hosted for all of us at Brushstrokes Studio. I met many wonderful and inquisitive people as I was creating this piece. Doing demos is a challenge while being asked questions as you work but it also forces the artist to really focus tight to avoid messing up a painting as you are "on stage". I was really pleased with how this came out and had only a few final touches to add to it when I returned to the studio.

KMD2676 Mirror Image (Autumn, New England, Fall, reflections, waterscape, fall painting)

SOLD
One of my themes this past year and currently is reflections. This scene was found on another travel adventure to New England a few years ago and oh, the reflections there! It was mesmerizing to see the brilliant fall colors on the shore of a lake and then the added bonus of the entire scene mirrored in the waters. I just love getting lost in the mirror images leaving me in a state of wonder and imagination. With the cool fall days and the warm, warm colors it is a perfect place to experience.

KMD2673 Poppies Galore (poppy, floral, gardens, original art)

SOLD
Here is one last hurrah for the poppies as fall has moved in here in Colorado. Summer has waned and fall is in the air now with the light lower and the nighttime temperatures lending us good sleeping. I do however, have so much poppy reference that I had to paint just one more and will probably be motivated to do more as we head into the cooler months ahead.

KM2674 Waimea Beckons ( ocean, Hawaii, Kauai, landscape, waterscape)

Here is a commission I just finished for a client to go in their new Kauai home. It was such a joy to paint as I am so enamored with painting ocean and boat scenes. Living in Colorado is the best but I do miss the salt air, sound of the surf and luscious colors of the ocean that is missing from the Rocky Mountains!
This painting is 36"x60" and was painted primarily with a palette knife. After all my small daily paintings it was a shock as to how much paint goes into one this size! I love the freedom of doing these large ones.

I am off to Ruidoso, NM where Longcoat Fine Art Gallery is hosting a show for myself and my partners at Brushstrokes. I will be doing a demo during the day on Saturday.

KMD2671 Fall Stroll (landscape, fall, autumn, Colorado, original fine art)

SOLD
The park where I walk my dog everyday is full of painting ideas, especially in the fall. I suppose after all of our hot days of August, I am jumping the gun for fall and will soon be complaining about the cold! Obviously, I painted this piece from a photo taken last year and anticipate another colorful season this year. 5"x7" unframed original oil $125.00 + $10.00 shipping and handling

KMD2672 Curious (Cockatiel, bird, animal, original fine art)

SOLD
I am working from another picture that I took several years ago and have had on my list of what I want to paint since then. When I photographed this fellow, he appeared so curious with his head cocked to the side and made me think he had a great sense of humor as well. It is so joyous to paint animals and birds as they add so much to our lives and the world in general.

KM1064 Majestic Columbine (Colorado Wildflower, Columbine, floral landscape, original oil paining)

The Rocky Mountain Columbine (our state flower here in Colorado) is so magnificent. If you haven't looked closely, don't miss the amazing detail nature has given this flower with its spurred lavender and white petals contrasted with the bright yellow center. It blooms in our mountain meadows and woodlands from June to August depending on the elevation. Although they grow in gardens I am partial to the wildflowers found in and amongst the delicate Aspen trees here in Colorado. I am so grateful for the amazingly imaginative subjects that nature provides for me to interpret on canvas.

KMD2670 Spirit of Heaven (landscape, Colorado, Crested Butte, original oil painting)

On my last journey to Crested Butte, Pat and I spent quite some time photographing this scene. The single, beautifully shaped tree was a wonderful focal point with a foreground showing patches of vibrant colors and the background of the mountains and Colorado blue skies. At some point I will do a larger painting of this same scene as it really resonates with me.

KM2664 Autumn Majesty (wildlife, moose, animal, original fine art, oil painting)

Sometimes I don't know why I decide to paint what I do, something just speaks to me and off I go. One day as I was contemplating my blank canvas I came across a photo of this powerful moose and just felt the need to paint him or her as the case may be. Perhaps it is just a warm up for the show we are going to host at Brushstrokes that will be all animal paintings for First Friday in October. I can't wait to look for more subject matter as animals are such an important part of my world, the world and exciting to paint. 16"x20" unframed original oil $1900.00 + $15.00 shipping and handling

KM2666 Afternoon Tranquility (landscape, horse, France)

SOLD
I have wanted to paint this scene for several years now and finally put my "to do" list aside and went for the "passionately want to paint" pictures. This scene was found several years ago while traveling in France. We were walking the countryside outside of St. Remy when we came upon this pastoral scene. Wouldn't this be the perfect back yard to have?!

KMD2667 Gleaming in the Shadows (garden, floral, geraniums, flower cart)

SOLD
I couldn't resist this scene from my trip to Crested Butte. Pat and I were resting over a cup of iced coffee in a perfectly lush and restful garden provided by a coffee house in town where this cart was part of the garden and magical atmosphere. We were relaxing at the end of a hot day of photographing every wildflower in sight. (We were tired as there were flower scenes in every direction one could see and we attempted to capture them all. I'm still sorting through the pictures!

KMD2665 August View (landscape, Colorado, Colorado Vista, floral landscape)

SOLD
This is a palette knife painting of one of my favorite vistas here in Colorado; the top of Kenosha Pass. I have only seen it this vibrant one time several summers ago and luckily I shot lots of pictures to work from. I go back to this spot every year in hopes of finding such abundance of flowers and colors but nature likes to keep it different each year.

KMD2663 Deep in Blue (Blue Jay, bird, animals

SOLD
I have a bird feeder that keeps me (and the squirrels) entertained every day. Although most of the birds are cheery little sparrows, we get a number of Blue Jays landing as well. I love to see them with their perky crest, and beautiful blue, white, and black plumage. Although they can be noisy, Blue Jays are known for their intelligence and complex social systems with tight family bonds.
Lately, it has been a symphony of birdsong in the mornings as though it were spring and our feeder is emptied daily. (A month ago it would hold for a week. Do they know something we don't?)

SOLD
I had such fun painting this warm and quiet scene. I came across the photo taken several years ago in late summer at the Denver Botanic Gardens here in Denver. The gardens have changed so much that I doubt that this scene is still there other than my pictures and paintings. This shows me what a gift it is to put these moments in time on canvas.

KM2553 Washington Park Boathouse (autumn scene, landscape, waterscape, original oil painting)

I can't believe how fast the summer is going and how far behind on my daily paintings I am. The good news is that I have been busy with commissions that have taken me away from my blogging.
I painted this nostalgic scene of the Washington Park Boathouse on location last fall. It was a perfect, crisp Colorado fall morning, a gift to be able to be part of the scene and to express the scene on canvas. It doesn't get any better!

KMA2658 Movement in Red (abstract, contemporary art, original oil painting)

This painting took me on a joyous journey as I created it. I had a landscape that I overworked on this canvas and finally let it go to work in the abstract with color, shape and textures. Some of the underlying colors from the landscape give it effects that I would never have been able to imagine doing.
