KMD2427 Hen in Turquoise (Chickens, hens, landscape, China, animals)

I found this scene while on my trip to China in the ancient village of Zhouzhuang, an ancient water city that is called the “Venice of China”.
We spent over 3 hours in this amazing village with a plethora of painting and photographic subject matter. My travel companion Pat was amazed at how many pictures I shot of this one scene with roosters and hens, but the light was perfect and I had to get every angle!
Although hens and roosters aren't my usual fare, when I saw this hen surrounded by the colorful background I had to put it on canvas!

KMD2426 View from City Park (landscape, sunset, urban, oil painting)

SOLD
I have had this painting in mind for many years. I was plein air painting at City Park here in Denver one fall afternoon when a passerby offered to send me a picture he had taken with his new panoramic camera (film of course, so this tells how long I have held on to the picture). It was such a kind gesture and I regret that I don't have his name to thank him again and let him see what I created from his picture!

KMD2424 Pretty in Pink

SOLD
As the days grow colder and shorter I seem to be drawn to the colors and warmth of summer! The rose is one of my most favorite flowers (second to the poppy of course!)
I am always drawn not only to colorful flowers but love fragrant flowers as well.
This is a quote that sums up the heavenly fragrances of flowers for me:
"To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a delectable form of defeat".

KM2420 The Red Barn (landscape oil painting)

Here is another plein air painting done last fall. I went to Prospect Park in Lakewood, Colorado on a hot, sunny morning with artists Anita Mosher and Wes Hyde. I usually paint the creek that goes through the park but most of the trees had been decimated by a serious tornado several weeks before we went. Luckily, this nostalgic barn remained untouched and a lovely sight to paint.

KM2423 Summer Hibiscus (Floral, garden, landscape oil painting)

I painted this scene last August in Washington Park near our studio with my fellow painter Anita Mosher.
I have been inspired to do more plein air painting as I love the time to be outdoors and one with my subject.
Of course, I am a "Fair Weather" painter and only enjoy painting outdoors when the temperature is comfortable, not too many bugs or wind!
I was amazed to find Hibiscus growing in Colorado, they are a different variety from what I have known in the tropics.

KMD2422 Fall's Last Hurrah (original oil painting, landscape, fall scene)

SOLD
I came across this picture while attempting to get organized at the studio. I have wanted to paint this colorful scene from the Botanic Gardens here in Denver for some time now. I was drawn to the bright contrasts of yellow orange fall trees whose leaves are turning to the purple late blooming flowers. It feels so warm since our outside temperature at the moment is 20 degrees!

KMD2421 Montana Light (Landscape, barn, oil painting, Montana)

SOLD

I took another break from China and painted this scene that I found in Montana several summers ago. The afternoon light was exquisite as the sun started down leaving long, warm shadows. I have painted this scene many times as it always takes me back to an incredible moment that was shared with my friend and fellow photographer Pat!

KM2419 Washington Park Boathouse (landscape, Denver, CO, lake, original oil)

This painting was done "plein air" at Washington Park here in Denver, Colorado. The boathouse in this painting is an historic landmark that was built in 1913. In winter, it served as a warming house for ice skaters. It is located on Smith Lake and has a two-story lakefront façade and an open pavilion over enclosed boat storage. Currently, in the summer, boats are rented out from the boathouse to paddle around and enjoy beautiful views around the lake.

KM2418 Mama's Little Helper (children, China, oil painting)

I had such fun painting this little Chinese girl who was helping her Mom with the daily chores. They were cutting and cleaning vegetables and so engrossed that this little one hardly noticed the sound of cameras firing off all around her from all the artists and photographers in our tour group. Although she sat on her haunches to help, I'm happy to report that her Mom was sitting in a chair! I can't wait to look through my reference for more of the children to paint. Doing some figurative work is a fun, new experience for me.

This painting is for sale in the 19th Annual Holiday Miniatures Show at Abend Gallery here in Denver and is sized 10"x8".

KM2417 Reaching Out (oil painting, child, China0

Everywhere I travel I am fascinated or even mesmerized by the little children, they are so pure and full of wonder. China was no exception and the parents were all so proud of the little ones, just beaming, as we photographed them.

I have been so busy painting China for last Friday's show at Brushstrokes that I am finally coming up for air and have lots of new subject matter to explore in the days to come. KM2400 Glowing August Day ( landscape original oil, Montana, fall scene)

I haven't found time to paint my little ones as I am still painting for our upcoming show this Friday in addition to supplying my galleries with new work. This, of course, is not a complaint......it is wonderful to have such a variety of venues to show my work and such variation in subject matter. I painted this for my gallery in Evergreen, Colorado: Evergreen Fine Art
I have painted this barn in a variety of compositions as it such a beautiful scene I found outside of Bigfork, Montana while visiting a few summers ago. It is available for sale from Evergreen Fine Art or online.

KM2405 Black Dragon Lake (Plein Air painting, China)

Here is the 2nd of the plein air paintings I did in China. This is probably my favorite and it was painted as I was succumbing to the 24 hour virus that flew through the group of 18 that I traveled with!
This great scene was walking distance to the village of Li Jiang that was one of my favorite stops on our trip.
I am madly painting for our upcoming show at Brushstrokes Studio opening on November 6. I am having so much fun with all the incredible new subject matter from China.

KM2404 Li Jiang Village

It's been a whirlwind of a week between the openings for the American Impressionist Society show and the unveiling events of the Denver Young Artist's Orchestra Painted Violin fund raiser. I am finally posting one of my plein air paintings that I painted on location in China. This was a quaint village where people still live as they did many years ago with few modern conveniences except possibly cell phones and dish antennas!!! It is an odd combination of the old and the new, but the old is dying out fast that I am glad I got to see some remote villages before they disappear!

KMD2403 Homeward Bound (landscape painting from China, original oil

SOLD

It has taken awhile to sort thru my 1000's of pictures and figure out where to start painting again for the Daily Painters exercise. I am also painting for our upcoming show so won't be posting as often as I have in the past until I catch my breath.
My favorite part of China was the countryside and small villages where we saw a way of life that is disappearing rapidly. I shot this photo while doing a painting on location, as this person rode by I had to quickly get my camera out before they disappeared on they rode by. It was amazing to see these 3 wheeled bicycle trailers being used still and even in the Beijing and Shanghai.

KMD2401 Amidst Chaos (Still life original oil painting from China trip)

Back to the routine after an incredible 2 weeks in China with a
lifetime of painting subject matter to explore. I have finally recovered
from jet lag and am busy painting for our upcoming show
"Artist's Focus" on November 6 at Brushstrokes Gallery.
I photographed this unusual still life while touring the Cloisonné Enamelware
factory in Bejing. It represents a setting I found next to where all the
amazing hand work is done.
I will be posting the larger paintings that I am doing for the show as I finish them.
It is great to be back!

The Cotswolds are such a charming region in England. Located in the upper part of the southwest region of England the Cotwolds are the country's largest officially designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
