KMD2488 Along the Canal (China, Suzhou, water, canal)

I am finally getting back to my small daily paintings. This scene is from a photo taken last fall while in China, in the village of Suzhou. This is called the "Venice of the east" with its narrow streets, waterways and small bridges. We spent several hours there photographing life in the village as the day began. It was a privilege to see this amazing village and its people.

Normally, the daily (ok, weekly) paintings usually inspire a larger painting, but since I did this one large first I found that it spoke to me to go small. This is a wonderful little village on the outskirts of Siena, Italy that we found as the day was ending.

This is a commission that I finished recently for a collector who is giving this to his wife as a surprise birthday present. It is quite a gift as my partners Anita and John also each did a painting of the 2 girls, one was a portrait and another beach scene. What fun to capture the innocence of children playing.

Back to Italy for a change of pace. I needed some new work for Brushstrokes so I decided to revisit one of my favorite places in Tuscany, the little village of Asciano.
I have painted many scenes from this quiet, unassuming village and would go back to visit it in a New York minute!
