KMA2961 Orange Zest by Colorado Contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (12x12 acrylic, abstract floral still life)
This is another of my abstract floral still life paintings that was done as an exploration into creating paintings that have less detail but say more. It is a challenge to work mostly intuitively on these. Many of these start with some sort of reference but soon take on their own lives once I let go and let them dictate the direction. I have this painting at my Denver art gallery and studio, Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery. Now that summer is coming to an end and I finish my great commissions, I will be getting back to more of these as they indeed, do challenge me!

KMD2989 Wildflower Medley by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (5x7, oil, landscape, wildflowers)
I have another plethora of pictures from Crested Butte taken last month when the wildflowers were at their peak. Every hillside was an array of either purples or yellows and a feast for the eyes. This scene was on the road between the town of Crested Butte and the ski area. My friend Pat and I spent quite a bit of time trying to capture every square inch of this scene on our cameras!

KMA2981 Morning Prelude by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (acrylic, 10x10, abstract landscape)
This is an exploration into abstracting a landscape using my acrylic paints on a wood panel board. I applied a texture base on it before starting to paint it. I then used many layers of paint on the texture to create some interesting effects as the brush skips over the raised portions of the texture leaving paint marks in unexpected shapes. My challenge was to create an interpretation of the landscape without a lot of definition, the old "less is more" philosophy. Once I am finished with some great commissions that I am working on, I plan to tackle more of these intuitive paintings.
