This little painting was done for the Daily Painters love theme where we all paint a theme painting on the first Wednesday of each month. This couple was found kissing on a bridge over the Seine in Paris. The Parisians are such a romantic people!

I recently came across a photo I had printed out several months ago and never got arount to painting. That is why doing the daily paintings is fun, to try so many different subjects.
This is a scene from Provence, France that we came across when visiting a few years ago. I loved the vast skies, filled with clouds floating over the meadow filled with purple flowers. I never know how to describe in words why a particular scene catches my eye, but that must be why I paint them instead of writing about them!

These poppies are from the Denver Botanic Gardens. What a treasure we have in Denver with our Gardens, so full of every kind of plant and flower imaginable and I didn't have to plant any of them! I loved the fact that these poppies were surrounded by such vibrantly purple flowers that do nothing but compliment the poppies.

Here is another commission I had the pleasure of painting. This is Josie, an 8 month old Portuguese Water dog and full of life. She was another challenge to photograph for reference to use for the painting as there are many more interesting things to focus your attention on besides the camera when you are a puppy!
I have one more pet portrait commission to paint before gettin back to painting and posting my regular daily paintings next week.
We have been doing taxes ALL WEEK at the gallery and haven't been using much of the right side of my brain although my partners aren't sure there is any left side working these days!

Here is the companion commission to Belle whom I posted the other day. This gal is named Baylee. She is the companion to Belle who I painted and posted first. I had such fun photographing and painting these 2 sweet dogs and have found a great new passion to add to my painting repertoire. I love dogs and cats as much as I love painting and what a challenge to put their spirits to canvas.

This is a commission I did for a collector as a surprise for his wife for Christmas. I photographed and painted both of their Golden's but Belle was a challenge as she was so nervous for the photo shoot and wouldn't quit panting. It took awhile to get a picture where she was calm and didn't have her tongue hanging out. She is an absolute sweetheart and what a thrill to paint her!

KMD260 Last Rays of the Day

Week before last I was invited to a client's ranch outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and found it to be a feast of pictures, even in winter where I found the colors so warm in the brush and willows that were found along the Elk River. We were driven all around the property on an ATV...I got to drive one which was a huge thrill. That is where this painting was inspired.

Here is a little departure from my norm. I was fascinated with the reflections in the shiny floors at the Denver Art Musuem reflecting the various visitors who were visiting , wandering, looking, studying all the wonderful art. I have been busy painting for our holiday show at Brushstrokes Studio Gallery here in Denver. I found these pink poppies in a garden once again, in Crested Butte, Colorado. I was drawn to the blue background that made the flowers stand out and enriched their amazing colors. I thought perhaps I should show that I do paint more than red poppies!!!
I was enthralled with the golden yellow poppies in this garden that were surrounded and contrasted with the wild delicate small flowers growing all around them. Maybe next spring I will get to California to see and photograph their beautiful state flower in full bloom.

These poppies were growing at our mountain cabin here in Colorado. In 2000 our place burned down in one of our terrible fires but since then has been rebuilt and once again we are very fortunate to have a little piece of heaven to escape to from the busy city life here in Denver. These poppies came up the year after the fire and are testament to how beautifully Nature regenerates herself and life moves on and beauty endures.
