As all of you know, Colorado has suffered epic flooding leaving terrible devastation in our wonderful state. I plan to contribute to the Colorado relief efforts by donating 100% of the proceeds from sales of my next five Daily Paintings to the Colorado Relief Fund. I will send the very generous purchaser the painting along with details of the donation placed in their name.
I want thank everyone in advance for helping in the relief efforts for the many displaced Coloradans who were unfortunate enough to have been in the path of this disaster.

I don't know why, but lately as I peruse my for painting ideas, I am moved to paint animals. I have never painted a buffalo so decided it was time. What is it that is so romantic about the mighty buffalo? They really aren't pretty animals but they are powerful and hold such a nostalgia in our psyche, I suppose reminiscent of the freedom days on the prairie.

This little Chickadee is titled after the sound these wonderful little birds make. They are wonderful little songbirds and here is a bit of trivia about them: On cold winter nights, these birds reduce their body temperature by up to 10-12 °C to conserve energy. I am on a bird run as they are such wonderful creatures and I hope my paintings are the next best thing to having them with us.

Back to my other passion; animals. I have wanted to paint this image since the days of film before the advent of digital cameras (that is a few years!). I took this picture one winter while my husband and I were on a cross country ski weekend outside of Granby, Colorado. This little fellow was passing by the remote bed and breakfast where we were staying.

I am returning after a few weeks off from painting and regrouping for the great New Year ahead.
I was inspired to create this painting by my studio partner John K. Harrell who just completed a commissioned series of African animals. As he was working on his incredible paintings my friend Pat suggested we go to the Denver Zoo to see some baby animals she had seen on the news. We came upon this majestic cat who holds her head high.

We found this cute little piglet with his siblings while venturing around the outlying villages of LiJiang on my China tour. All the other piglets were shy and ran out of sight while I photographed this fellow. It was amazing morning light that lit up his pink ears!

This is a commission of this wonderful dog named Otto. He is no longer with us but he lived and loved for 17 years and was half mountain goat. He climbed hills and rocks with amazing ease in pursuit of deer and fox and anything else he might sniff out!
