KMA2760 Taos Tribal by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (original oil, 4x6, abstract)

This is a fun little abstract created in a series I am preparing for the Art Student's League of Denver's Summer Art Market. I was thrilled with the color combination using leftover paints from another painting I was doing. I created this colorful piece with pure imagination and was thrilled with the way it came out. It is such a wonderful time when I tap into the inner self and the painting just flows out, seemingly without effort. Lacking words to describe what I am attempting I will use the words I found in trying to describe abstracted art: Abstraction generally involves implication, suggestion and mystery rather that obvious description. Like a good poem, a good abstraction attacks your feelings before your understanding.

This is a painting done for our Painting with Passion Show.It is another one of my "intuitive" creations where I am working totally reference free and only with what speaks from within. It is a huge challenge for me with years of training where I paint using reference. It is fun and frightening to see what evolves. I am surprised at how I see abstracted figures revealed in many of these works. Of course the joy with the results is having everyone see from their own experiences.

This is an exciting abstract that is one of my favorites. I used several different materials and techniques to create this unusual effect. I poured a clear poly resin on the top which makes the colors just pop and sing (not shown in the photo as the reflection makes it difficult to photograph). If you are interested in this piece I will gladly send a photo of the final with the poured resin top and the base that it is mounted on.

KMD2440 Natures Gift by Kit Hevron Mahoney (landscape, fall, autumn)

I have always been fascinated by what Nature provides to us artists. I was drawn to this more abstracted scene on one of my daily walks with my dog Farley. We live near the High Line Canal here in Denver, which was conceived in 1870 by early Colorado resident James Duff, who sought to turn eastern Denver into profitable farming land. It was originally 74 miles long. It is rarely used now but there are some amazing pictures from it when it is running. The reflected foliage colors in spring and fall inspire many abstracted scenes for me.
