KM3049 Twilight's Silence by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x12, oil, landscape, twilight, late day sunset)
My painting life has suddenly gotten busy, the name of the game in the art business. This is another study in simplified landscapes that I painted recently. Playing with simplification in my painting process is an ongoing journey for my artistic curiosity. I can't wait to get back to studying more of my landscape imagery.

KM3041 Image of Eternity by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney ( landscape, 6x24, twilight, sunset, Moab)
This painting was done from an fleeting moment captured in Utah just on our way out of Dead Horse Point at days end with my dear friend Pat. I loved the way the last light just lit up a few points on the mesas before disappearing into evening. Such a magical moment to share with a good friend and now as a permanent painting in oil.

KM2980 Twilight’s Magic by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x40, oil, landscape, Moab, Southern Utah, sunset, dusk)
I came upon this scene on the way into Moab,Utah last October just as the sun had dropped behind the mountains. It was a magical moment filled with a rainbow of saturated purples, blues and reds. I had to paint this with a brush rather than palette knife as this piece isn't about texture but about expressing the calm magic of twilight when all the busyness of the day’s events set with the sun. For me it is the best time of day as the world seemingly comes to a halt and peace reigns.

KM2896 Toast the Town by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x8 ,abstract, urban, San Francisco, original oil)
SOLD
Weekend before last I went to San Francisco with my great friends Connie and Pat. We had the most memorable, fun an crazy times with good friends of theirs who live there. It is a weekend that will go down as top of my list of good times. I created this painting from a picture taken of sunset over San Francisco from the condo where we stayed. I had such a great time painting this with the freedom and abandon I felt throughout our visit. I hope this will translate into more of my work.

KM2879 Evening Descends by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (urban landscape, 18x14, oil, Rockport, MA, lobster buoy)
Evening Descends is a painting I have created from a photo taken when I was in New England,(Rockport, MA specifically). This is one of many that have been in my "Favorites" file from all my photo adventures. My favorite file is full of pictures I really want to paint but have procrastinated for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are "Will it sell?", "how do I tackle this one?" etc. I have reached a point in my career where I am now focusing on painting what really speaks to me to put on canvas and this is one. I loved the light on this one that says the day is over, the work is done and peace falls upon the land as the sun sets.

KM2843 Illumination by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (8x10, landscape, oil painting)
This painting started as a warm up exercise. I painted over a painting I was not happy with and did this with very heavy strokes of paint on my brush and palette knife. I really like the mood of this piece as it reflects the warm glowing light I found in the scene that I photographed in Santa Fe many years ago. I have always wanted to paint this scene and don't know why the photo sat in a box for so long before I decided to paint it.
As the photo was taken pre-digital it shows how long I have had it laying around!

KMD2530 Day is Done (sunset, landscape, original oil painting)
This was a beautiful scene at my favorite time of day......sunset. This is the time the whole world seems to quiet down to settle into night, shedding all the day's busy lists and to do's. But then, I was on vacation when I found this scene so I wasn't too stressed having only a camera on hand as I enjoyed watching the sun go down.

KMD2439 Manifest Destiny by Kit Hevron Mahoney (palette knife painting, sunset, ocean, Hawaii

SOLD
It is fun to dream of turquoise waters, beaches and warm salt air in our cold Colorado January! So I paint (this one with a palette knife) and dream of far away places and behold, I find I will be in Hawaii next month for an event in Honolulu: Artists Hawaii 2010. I will be going with my business partner Anita Mosher to paint on location with several other artists for the show: Artists Hawaii 2010 Reception & Art Show at Outrigger Reef Hotel on Feb 16.
I am so excited to be participating in this venture.

KMD2426 View from City Park (landscape, sunset, urban, oil painting)

SOLD
I have had this painting in mind for many years. I was plein air painting at City Park here in Denver one fall afternoon when a passerby offered to send me a picture he had taken with his new panoramic camera (film of course, so this tells how long I have held on to the picture). It was such a kind gesture and I regret that I don't have his name to thank him again and let him see what I created from his picture!
