I have had this picture in my pile of "want to paint" for a long time now. I came across it in my files that I was perusing as I was looking for another reference photo. It is good to do some housecleaning now and again for there are wonderful surprises to be found that have been totally forgotten. This is such a joyous scene as are cosmos to begin with.

I am stuck on what to say today as far as why I painted this little poppy piece except it, of course, is one of my favorite subjects and a nice break from all the works I am preparing for the upcoming Art Market that is just around the corner now! KMD2748 You Say What? (6x6, original oil, by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney)

I finally got back to the easel this week after returning from my trip to Kauai. I photographed this little fellow in between rain showers while getting a tour of the beautiful island. I discovered that this Red Crested Cardinal is also known as the Brazilian Cardinal and it was introduced around 1930 from South America. They move very quickly making it a challenge to get a good photo. I was happy to get this pose to paint.
